Richmond School District (School District No. 38) is a school district based in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.

The school board serves the city of Richmond.

Schools

As of 2016 the district has 38 primary schools, 10 secondary schools, and one alternative school. The Richmond School District (SD38) believes in a hands on learning approach and is less worried about the grades of their students, but rather the actual skills of their students. [3]

Secondary schools

Prior to 1996, Richmond had separate Junior Secondary Schools (grades 8–10) and Senior Secondary Schools (grades 11–12). Starting in 1996, the district began a two-year merging process that changed all high schools to be Grades 8 to 12 inclusive.

Hugh Boyd Secondary School, commonly known as Hugh Boyd or Boyd is a public, co-educational secondary school part of School District 38 Richmond (SD38), serving and educating 599 (2022-2023) students from grades 8 to 12. Hugh Boyd Secondary is the only school in Richmond that offers the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. The school is located on the western side of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, at 9200 No. 1 Road, stretching as far north to Francis Road and as far south to Pendleton Road. Hugh Boyd consists of the main school building, along with 3 parking lots, 2 soccer fields and an artificial turf field with 4 sections. Boyd also has 2 small extra buildings to the northwest with them being its Scout Hall and the Boyd Oval Field House. To the east, the school is conjoined with the West Richmond Community Centre with the West Richmond Pitch & Putt Golf Course being located just further east. Hugh Boyd Secondary was named after Hugh Boyd, the first reeve of the Township of Richmond.

Linda Reid is a Canadian politician. She was Minister of Advanced Education and a Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. She was first elected in 1991 to represent the riding of Richmond East and was re-elected in 1996, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2013. Reid served as Minister of State for Childcare from June 2005 to June 2009 and the Minister of State for Early Childhood Development from June 2001 to June 2005.
