[2] Ridgeland Township was formed from Onarga Township on January 29, 1879; the original name was Ridge Township, but the name was changed to Ridgeland Township on an unknown date.
According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 27 square miles (70 km2), of which 26.99 square miles (69.9 km2) (or 99.96%) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.026 km2) (or 0.04%) is water. [2]
