Ritwik Ghatak (formerly known as Topsia ), is a station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro located in the Topsia area of Kolkata, West Bengal, India, serving Topsia and Uttar Panchanagram areas. [2] The name of the station has been given on the famous film director, Ritwik Ghatak. The station is elevated above the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. [3] [4] [5]
This station is located in Topsia across the service road and footpath on the eastern side of Biswa Bangla Sarani at Uttar Panchannagram. The main elevated structure of the station is situated along the service road and footpath adjacent to the New Garia-bound lane of Biswa Bangla Sarani near Ambedkar Bridge. It is geographically located at 22°31′58″N88°23′45″E / 22.5328605°N 88.3957647°E . The previous station of the station is VIP Bazar metro station at a distance of 0.9 km (0.56 mi) and the next station is Barun Sengupta metro station at a distance of 1.4 km (0.87 mi). [3] [5]
This project was sanctioned in the budget of 2010–11 by Mamata Banerjee with a project deadline of six years. [6] The execution of this project has been entrusted to RVNL at a cost of Rs 3951.98 crore. It will help to reduce travel time between the southern fringes of Kolkata to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. [3] [6] In October 2011, RVNL awarded Gammon India Limited, the tender for the construction of the metro corridor from VIP Bazar Metro Station to Nikko Park (Nalban metro station), including stations, as part of Package-II of Line 6. Amongst those metro stations, one in Topsia was also sanctioned, i.e., Ritwik Ghatak. [7] In January 2012, the construction of the metro station along with the metro line started. The construction of the station was stopped in 2015 due to land disputes. The construction of the station started again in May 2017 [8] and was fully completed in early 2023. [9] [4] [10] But the metro couldn't be started due to a viaduct gap over Tagore Park culvert. [11] [12]
A week later after inauguration and a day after commercial run started on Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section, in March 2024, RVNL announced the completion of that 76 m viaduct gap after construction of a single-span hanging steel bridge over the disputed Tagore Park culvert. This completed the viaduct upto Beliaghata metro station, clearing the way for commercial operations at Ritwik Ghatak. [13] Trial runs have started in the same month. The station is expected to be operational by late 2024. [14] [9] [15]
Ritwik Ghatak Metro Station is an elevated metro station and has a total of 3 levels. Station entrances and exits begin or end at the first level or ground level. Second-level or L1 or intermediate level houses station fare control, station agents, metro vending machines, crossovers, etc. The third level or L2 or the final level houses the platforms and rail tracks. The station is 200 meters long and 25 meters wide. [3] [4] [16] [5]
The station has four entrances and exits. The station is being built with state-of-the-art technology. In addition to staircases, it will be equipped with lifts and escalators. The station also has drinking water and toilet facilities. [3] [4] [16] [17]

Like other stations and lines of Kolkata Metro, this station has 750 volt DC powered third rail. The electricity system will be used to operate the train. [4] [16]
Train movement at this station will be managed by communication based train control signaling system. With this signal system, trains can be operated at intervals of 90 seconds. [16] [4]
Services have not started from this station. Currently the station is under construction and is set to be opened in 2024. [14] [9]

The Kolkata Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Kolkata and the Kolkata Metropolitan Region in West Bengal, India. Opened in 1984, it was the first operational rapid transit system in India. Trains operate between 06:50 and 22:40 IST and the fares range from ₹5 to ₹50.
Kavi Subhash is the at-grade southern terminus and interchange metro station of the North-South corridor and Bypass Corridor of Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is named after poet Subhash Mukhopadhyay. This station was opened to public on the auspicious day of Mahalaya in 2010.
Topsia is a neighbourhood of East Kolkata, in West Bengal, India. Topsia falls in Kolkata district situated in West Bengal state, with a population 94809. The male and female populations are 49388 and 45421 respectively. The size of the area is about 2.8 square kilometer.
Line 3 is a rapid transit metro line of the Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. A 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) stretch from Joka to Taratala of this line was inaugurated on 30 December 2022 and after extended to Majerhat on 6 March 2024. This line will span 15.08 kilometres (9.37 mi) from Joka in the south to Esplanade in the north with a future southward extension of 3.39 kilometres (2.11 mi) to Diamond Park from Joka. It will connect Blue Line at Park Street in central Kolkata and run in parallel with Blue Line up to Esplanade where it will connect with Green Line also. Line 3 is being built by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.
Line 6 is a rapid transit metro line of the Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It will connect New Garia with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport via two major satellite towns of Kolkata metropolitan region, Salt Lake and New Town. It currently operates between Kavi Subhash and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. This line will be one of the most important stretches of Kolkata Metro because it will connect the southern and the eastern parts of the city with Kolkata Airport. The total distance of this route will be 29.87 km (18.56 mi). It connects Line 1 at Kavi Subhash and will eventually connect Line 2 at Sector-V and Kaikhali and Line 4 at Airport.
Satyajit Ray is a metro station of the Kolkata Metro Line 6 in Chak Garia, E.M. Bypass, Kolkata, India. The station is named in honour of the great Bengali filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The elevated structure is located above the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass with the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and the Baghajatin Peerless Hospital on the eastern side and the Hiland Park condominium on the western side. This metro station would serve the neighbourhoods of Baghajatin, Chak Garia, Survey Park and Santoshpur of South Kolkata.
Mahakaran, is a metro station on Line 2 of Kolkata Metro, located in B.B.D. Bagh. There are many British heritage buildings near the station with the Lal Dighi adjoining it. The tracks leaving the station towards Howrah go underneath the Hooghly river through the biggest underwater metro tunnel of India. The station was completed and opened on 6 March 2024. The station, though comparing without platform screen doors, may look similar to any Line-1 underground station, but it is actually very different as it is designed with world class facilities and murals that pay tribute to the locality and Indian freedom fighters. The nearest railway station is B.B.D. Bagh railway station. Just before the tunnel enters the underwater segment, lies a ventilation shaft on the Kolkata bank of Hooghly River, which is the deepest of its kind in India, at 44 metres (144 ft) below ground level.
Howrah metro station is a metro station of Kolkata Metro Line 2 in Howrah, India. Built underneath Howrah railway station's new and old complex, the metro station allows interchanging with other zones of Indian Railways as part of the Howrah station transport hub. It is the deepest metro station in India. To the east, the station connects to Mahakaran station in Kolkata through India's biggest under-river metro tunnel beneath the Hooghly river; whilst to the west the adjacent station is Howrah Maidan.
Jai Hind is a metro station of Kolkata Metro. It will serve the city of Kolkata's main airport, the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. As of October 2024 the station is planned to be open for service during March 2025.
Barun Sengupta, is a station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro located at Parama Island in the Dhapa area of Kolkata, West Bengal, India, serving Dhapa, ITC Royal Bengal, JW Marriott and Science City areas. The station is named in honour of the founder of Bartaman, Barun Sengupta. The station is elevated above the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
Gour Kishore Ghosh is a station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro near the Chingrighata crossing, Tangra at Sukanta Nagar in Bidhannagar. The station is named in honour of famous Bengali writer and journalist, Gour Kishore Ghosh.
East West Metro Tunnel is an underwater river tunnel of Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal. The river tunnel is constructed underneath Hooghly River. It is the biggest underwater river tunnel of India, which is made for metro rail service. The East West Metro Tunnel length is 10.8 km (6.7 mi) and width is 5.5 metres. A 520 m stretch of the tracks goes through a tunnel under the Hooghly River. The roof of the tunnel is about 30 metres from the ground level. The tunnel was completed in 2021. The tunnel is used by East West Metro Line for metro rail service by Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation and it was constructed by Afcons Infrastructure.
Majerhat metro station is an operational metro station on Line 3 of Kolkata Metro. It is the terminal station of the first phase 1 of this line and the first and only station built over an existing railway network, from Joka to Majerhat. The line was sanctioned in India's railway budget of 2010–11, but due to various hurdles, construction was delayed and missed multiple deadlines. The most notable reason for delays was the Majerhat Bridge collapse in 2018.
Jyotirindra Nandi is a metro station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro. The station serves Mukundapur, Santoshpur and Ajoy Nagar areas outlying the E.M. Bypass section of the city.
