Beleghata (also known as Metropolitan), is a station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro located in Beleghata at Biswa Bangla Sarani, Dhapa of Kolkata, West Bengal, India, serving Beleghata and Metropolitan areas. This station is located in Beleghata across the service road and footpath on the eastern side of Biswa Bangla Sarani. [9] [10] [11] The main elevated structure of the station is situated along the service road and footpath adjacent to the New Garia-bound lane of Biswa Bangla Sarani near the end of Maa Flyover. [12] [13] [14] It is geographically located at 22°33′03″N88°24′15″E / 22.550703°N 88.404094°E . [15] [16] [17] The previous station of the station is Barun Sengupta metro station at a distance of 0.9 km (0.56 mi) and the next station is Gour Kishore Ghosh metro station at a distance of 1.7 km (1.1 mi). This project was sanctioned in the budget of 2010–11 by Mamata Banerjee with a project deadline of six years. [21] The execution of this project has been entrusted to RVNL at a cost of Rs 3951.98 crore. [22] It will help to reduce travel time between the southern fringes of Kolkata to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. In October 2011, RVNL awarded Gammon India Limited, the tender for the construction of the metro corridor from VIP Bazar Metro Station to Nikko Park (Nalban metro station), [23] [24] including stations, as part of Package-II of Line 6. [25] Amongst those metro stations, one near Beleghata was also sanctioned. [26] [27] [21] In January 2012, the construction of the metro station along with the metro line started. [28] The construction of the station was stopped in 2015 due to land dispute at Tagore Park culvert and a pair of its own footover bridges. [29] The construction of the station started again in May 2017. [30] [31] [32] [33] [34] [35] But the metro couldn't be started due to a viaduct gap over Tagore Park culvert. [36] [37]
A week later after inauguration and a day after commercial run started on Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section, in March 2024, RVNL announced the completion of that 76 m viaduct gap after construction of a single-span hanging steel bridge over the disputed Tagore Park culvert. [38] [39] This completed the viaduct upto Beleghata metro station, clearing the way for commercial operations at this station. [40] [41] [42] Trial runs have started in March 2024. [43] [44] [45]
As of November 2024, for the Beleghata station and the stretch from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay till IT Centre metro station to be inaugurated, construction of safety limit of 90 m (300 ft) metro viaduct beyond the station is completed but the footover bridge is yet to be connected from both side of road. [46] On the other hand, filling a 650 m (2,130 ft) gap over Chingrighata crossing has not started and construction of Gour Kishore Ghosh, Nalban and IT Centre metro station is yet to be completed. [47] The station is expected to be operational by mid-2025. [48] [49]
Beleghata Metro Station is an elevated metro station and has a total of 3 levels. Station entrances and exits begin or end at the first level or ground level. Second-level or L1 or intermediate level houses station fare control, station agents, metro vending machines, crossovers, etc. [50] The third level or L2 or the final level houses the platforms and rail tracks. The station is 200 meters long and 25 meters wide. [51] [52]
The station has four entrances and exits. The station is being built with state-of-the-art technology. In addition to staircases, it will be equipped with lifts and escalators. The station also has drinking water and toilet facilities. [51] [53]

Like other stations and lines of Kolkata Metro, this station has 750 volt DC powered third rail. [54] The electricity system will be used to operate the train. [55]
Train movement at this station will be managed by communication based train control signaling system. With this signal system, trains can be operated at intervals of 90 seconds. [56]
Services have not started from this station. Currently the station is under construction and is set to be opened in 2024. [30] [57]
The Kolkata Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Kolkata and the Kolkata Metropolitan Region in West Bengal, India. Opened in 1984, it was the first operational rapid transit system in India. Two other lines named Line 4 and Line 5 are in various phases of construction and planning. The system has a mix of underground, at-grade, and elevated stations using both broad-gauge and standard-gauge tracks. It operates on a 750 V DC Third rail system. Trains operate between 06:50 and 22:40 IST and the fares range from ₹5 to ₹50.
Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) is a Government of India enterprise formed in 2008. The agency was formed to oversee the implementing Kolkata Metro Line 2, also known as East West Metro, connecting the twin cities Kolkata and Howrah. The metro rail route is partly underground including the part that will be under the river Ganges. The 16.6 km route has six station each in underground and elevated portions. The terminal stations are Salt Lake Sector V and the Howrah Maidan. The elevated stretch started operations on 13 February 2020.
Kavi Subhash is the at-grade southern terminus and interchange metro station of the North-South corridor and Bypass Corridor of Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is named after poet Subhash Mukhopadhyay. This station was opened to public on the auspicious day of Mahalaya in 2010.
Esplanade is an underground interchange metro station on the North-South corridor of the Blue Line and on the East-West corridor of the Green Line of Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. This station, which is the biggest in the city, is located in the Esplanade neighbourhood of Kolkata, at the northern end of Chowringhee Road/Jawaharlal Nehru Road near New Market and the Oberoi Grand hotel. It opened in 1984 as part of what is now Kolkata Metro Line 1. The station is re-designed to be the largest station of the metro and will function as the interchange station between Line 1, Line 2 and Line 3. The Line-2 complex, built below the Line-1 complex was completed and inaugurated on 6 March 2024. The Line-2 complex is designed with world class amenities and murals that depict the culture, tradition, sports, monuments, important structures, etc in them.
Line 2 is a rapid transit metro line of the Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It currently consists of two distinctly operational sections from Salt Lake Sector-V to Sealdah, and Esplanade to Howrah Maidan by going underneath the Hooghly River. A future eastern extension from Sector-V to Teghoria is planned. It will cover a distance of 22 km (14 mi) and consist of 17 stations from Teghoria (Haldiram) in the east to Howrah Maidan in the west, of which it will consist of 11 elevated and 6 underground stations, and the operational section consists of 6 elevated and 6 underground stations, with a total distance of 13.1 km (8.1 mi). It is expected to derive a very high ridership, since it will connect India's two largest commuter railway and long-distance railway terminals, Howrah and Sealdah, along with two of its largest business districts, BBD Bagh and Salt Lake Sector V. At present, more than 100,000 passengers commute through the line every day, and this figure is expected to go up to 1 million after it gets fully completed by 2035. It will also connect the industrial hub of Kolkata, i.e., Howrah and the IT hub of Kolkata, i.e., Salt Lake Sector-V. It connects Line 1 at Esplanade and will eventually connect Lines 3 and 6.
Line 3 is a rapid transit metro line of the Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. A 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) stretch from Joka to Taratala of this line was inaugurated on 30 December 2022 and after extended to Majerhat on 6 March 2024. This line will span 15.08 kilometres (9.37 mi) from Joka in the south to Esplanade in the north with a future southward extension of 3.39 kilometres (2.11 mi) to Diamond Park from Joka. It will connect Blue Line at Park Street in central Kolkata and run in parallel with Blue Line up to Esplanade where it will connect with Green Line also. Line 3 is being built by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.
Line 6 is a rapid transit metro line of the Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It will connect New Garia with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport via two major satellite towns of Kolkata metropolitan region, Salt Lake and New Town. It currently operates between Kavi Subhash and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. This line will be one of the most important stretches of Kolkata Metro because it will connect the southern and the eastern parts of the city with Kolkata Airport. The total distance of this route will be 29.87 km (18.56 mi). It connects Line 1 at Kavi Subhash and will eventually connect Line 2 at Sector-V and Kaikhali and Line 4 at Airport.
Satyajit Ray is a metro station of the Kolkata Metro Line 6 in Chak Garia, E.M. Bypass, Kolkata, India. The station is named in honour of the great Bengali filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The elevated structure is located above the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass with the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and the Baghajatin Peerless Hospital on the eastern side and the Hiland Park condominium on the western side. This metro station would serve the neighbourhoods of Baghajatin, Chak Garia, Survey Park and Santoshpur of South Kolkata.
Howrah Maidan Metro Station is a station of the Kolkata Metro Line 2 in Howrah Maidan, Howrah, India. The underground station is located near the Howrah Municipal Corporation Stadium and the Howrah Sarat Sadan. It is the terminus of Line 2 of the Kolkata Metro. The station was completed and inaugurated on 6th March 2024. Though being similar to any Line 1 underground station, it is made with world class amenities and patronage to football, the main sport of the state.
Mahakaran, is a metro station on Line 2 of Kolkata Metro, located in B.B.D. Bagh. There are many British heritage buildings near the station with the Lal Dighi adjoining it. The tracks leaving the station towards Howrah go underneath the Hooghly river through the biggest underwater metro tunnel of India. The station was completed and opened on 6 March 2024. The station, though comparing without platform screen doors, may look similar to any Line-1 underground station, but it is actually very different as it is designed with world class facilities and murals that pay tribute to the locality and Indian freedom fighters. The nearest railway station is B.B.D. Bagh railway station. Just before the tunnel enters the underwater segment, lies a ventilation shaft on the Kolkata bank of Hooghly River, which is the deepest of its kind in India, at 44 metres (144 ft) below ground level.
Howrah metro station is a metro station of Kolkata Metro Line 2 in Howrah, India. Built underneath Howrah railway station's new and old complex, the metro station allows interchanging with other zones of Indian Railways as part of the Howrah station transport hub. It is the deepest metro station in India. To the east, the station connects to Mahakaran station in Kolkata through India's biggest under-river metro tunnel beneath the Hooghly river; whilst to the west the adjacent station is Howrah Maidan.
Barun Sengupta, is a station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro located at Parama Island in the Dhapa area of Kolkata, West Bengal, India, serving Dhapa, ITC Royal Bengal, JW Marriott and Science City areas. The station is named in honour of the founder of Bartaman, Barun Sengupta. The station is elevated above the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
Gour Kishore Ghosh is a station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro near the Chingrighata crossing, Tangra at Sukanta Nagar in Bidhannagar. The station is named in honour of famous Bengali writer and journalist, Gour Kishore Ghosh.
East West Metro Tunnel is an underwater river tunnel of Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal. The river tunnel is constructed underneath Hooghly River. It is the biggest underwater river tunnel of India, which is made for metro rail service. The East West Metro Tunnel length is 10.8 km (6.7 mi) and width is 5.5 metres. A 520 m stretch of the tracks goes through a tunnel under the Hooghly River. The roof of the tunnel is about 30 metres from the ground level. The tunnel was completed in 2021. The tunnel is used by East West Metro Line for metro rail service by Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation and it was constructed by Afcons Infrastructure.
Majerhat metro station is an operational metro station on Line 3 of Kolkata Metro. It is the terminal station of the first phase 1 of this line and the first and only station built over an existing railway network, from Joka to Majerhat. The line was sanctioned in India's railway budget of 2010–11, but due to various hurdles, construction was delayed and missed multiple deadlines. The most notable reason for delays was the Majerhat Bridge collapse in 2018.
Jyotirindra Nandi is a metro station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro. The station serves Mukundapur, Santoshpur and Ajoy Nagar areas outlying the E.M. Bypass section of the city.
Kavi Sukanta is a station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro in Kalikapur, a southern neighbourhood of Kolkata, India, serving the areas of Kalikapur, Haltu, Prince Anwar Shah Road and Nandi Bagan. The station is named in honour of the revolutionary Bengali poet Sukanta Bhattacharya.
Hemanta Mukhopadhyay is a Metro station of Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro at Ruby Crossing, serving the areas of E.M. Bypass, Kasba and Anandapur. The station is named in honour of the Indian Bengali playback singer Hemanta Mukhopadhyay.
