Samnorwood Independent School District (SISD) was a public school district based in the community of Samnorwood, Texas (USA).

Samnorwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Collingsworth County, Texas, United States. The population was 51 at the 2010 census, up from 39 at the 2000 census.

History

The district had one school. It came into existence in 1934 by combining seven local schools: Aberdeen, Abra, Dpzoer. Lutie, Nicholson, Plymouth, and Prairie View. Samnorwood ISD later absorbed the China Grove, Elm Valley, Enterprise, Hackberry, Lone mound, Needwood, and Roundup school districts. [1]

On July 1, 1991, Lela Independent School District stopped operations, and Samnorwood ISD, along with Shamrock Independent School District, educated Lela ISD students until that district was formally merged into Shamrock ISD on July 1, 1992. [2]

Shamrock Independent School District is a public school district based in Shamrock, Texas (USA). Located in Wheeler County, a small portion of the district extends into Collingsworth County.

The secondary grades were discontinued in the fall of 2011 when only one high school student graduated.[ citation needed ] The district itself was closed and consolidated with the Wellington Independent School District effective July 1, 2012. [3] [4] The Texas Education Commissioner's Rule for District Takeover was used to close the district due to having too few students. Of the five school districts in Texas closed involuntarily under this rule from 2006 to 2015, Samnorwood ISD was the only one with a student body made up of mostly non-Hispanic white students. [5]

Wellington Independent School District is a public school district based in Wellington, Texas (USA). Located in Collingsworth County, the district extends into a portion of Childress County. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.

La Marque Independent School District (LMISD) was a public school district based in La Marque, Texas, in the Houston metropolitan area. In addition to much of La Marque, the district served portions of Texas City and Tiki Island. As of July 1, 2016 it consolidated into the Texas City Independent School District.

Novice Independent School District was a public school district based in Novice, Texas (USA).

McLean Independent School District is a public school district based in McLean, Texas (USA). Located in Gray County, small portions of the district extend into Collingsworth, Donley, and Wheeler counties. The community of Alanreed also lies within the district. McLean ISD has one school that serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12. In 2009, the school district was rated "recognized" by the Texas Education Agency.

Blackwell Consolidated Independent School District is a public school district based in Blackwell, Texas, United States. The district serves southeastern Nolan County, southwestern Taylor County, and a small portion of northeastern Coke County. The district has one high school, Blackwell High School.

Roby Consolidated Independent School District is a public school district based in Roby, Texas (USA). Located in Fisher County, a small portion of the district extends into Jones County. The district also serves the unincorporated communities of Sylvester and McCaulley. All students attend classes in Roby.

Memphis Independent School District is a public school district based in Memphis, Texas (USA).

Fort Elliott Consolidated Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Briscoe, Texas (USA).

Petrolia Consolidated Independent School District is a public school district based in Petrolia, Texas (USA).
