Sinogastromyzon is a genus of hillstream loaches native to eastern Asia.

IUCN has assessed conservation status of 14 Sinogastromyzon species. Of these, ten are considered "Data Deficient", three of "Least Concern", and one ( S. puliensis ) "Vulnerable". [1]

Species

There is some dispute over the species in this genus. This list derives primarily from the work of Kottelat, 2012, with the addition of subsequently described species. There are currently 21 recognized species in this genus: [2] [3] [4]

Acrossocheilus

Acrossocheilus is a genus of ray-finned fishes in the family Cyprinidae, native to freshwater in China, Taiwan, Laos, and Vietnam. They are fairly small, no more than 30 cm (1 ft) in standard length.

Cyprinus

Cyprinus is the genus of typical carps in family Cyprinidae. Most species in the genus are of East Asia origin with only the common carp in Western Asia and Europe; this invasive species has also been introduced to many other regions around the world. Cyprinus are closely related to some more barb-like genera, such as Cyclocheilichthys and Barbonymus (tinfoils). The crucian carps (Carassius) of western Eurasia, which include the goldfish, are apparently not as closely related.

Rhinogobius

Rhinogobius is a genus of primarily freshwater gobies native to tropical and temperate parts of eastern Asia. Most are small, streamlined in shape, and often sexually dimorphic. Few are of commercial importance, but R. duospilus is fairly widely traded as an aquarium fish.

Acheilognathus

Acheilognathus is a genus of cyprinid fish native to Asia. The name is derived from the Greek a, meaning "without", the Greek cheilos, meaning "lip", and the Greek gnathos, meaning "jaw".

Hemimyzon

Hemimyzon is a genus of ray-finned fish in the family Balitoridae.

Leptobotia

Leptobotia is a genus of fish in the family Botiidae endemic to China.

Protocobitis is a genus of loaches endemic to Guangxi in China and living in caves.

Schistura

Schistura is a genus of fish in the stone loach family Nemacheilidae native to the streams and rivers of the southern and eastern Asia. Some of these species are troglobitic.

Triplophysa

Triplophysa is a genus of fish in the family Nemacheilidae found mainly in and around the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China. Currently, the genus is a mixed assemblage of species. Some lineages have been identified and treated as subgenera, but as Wikipedia follows Fishbase for fish species these have been treated as subgenera in Wikipedia, although Kottelat and the Catalog of Fishes treat them as genera. FishBase, however, includes these in Triplophysa without specifying subgenera and treats the names given by Kottelat as synonyms.

Yunnanilus

Yunnanilus is a genus of small stone loaches that are endemic to southeastern China, especially Guangxi and Yunnan. They are found in rivers, streams and lakes; some species are restricted to caves.

Pareuchiloglanis is a genus of sisorid catfishes native to Asia. These species are rheophilic catfish chiefly found in the headwaters of major rivers in South and East Asia. They originate from the Brahmaputra drainage in India, east and south to the Yangtze drainage in China and the Annamese Cordillera drainages in southern Vietnam. Two species are known from the Mekong River: P. myzostoma and P. gracilicaudata. Four species are known from the drainage of China: P. abbreviatus, P. gracilicaudata, P. myzostoma and P. prolixdorsalis.

Beaufortia (fish)

Beaufortia is a genus of gastromyzontid loaches from China and mainland Southeast Asia.

Balitora

Balitora is a genus of fish in the family Balitoridae endemic to Asia.

Loach

Loaches are fish of the superfamily Cobitoidea. They are freshwater, benthic (bottom-dwelling) fish found in rivers and creeks throughout Eurasia and northern Africa. Loaches are among the most diverse groups of fish; the 1249 known species of Cobitoidea comprise about 107 genera divided among 9 families.

Annamia is a small genus of gastromyzontid loaches native to Southeast Asia. There are two species, though one of them is of doubtful validity and identity:

Erromyzon is a genus of fish in the family Gastromyzontidae endemic to China and Vietnam.

Homatula is a genus of stone loaches endemic to China.

Vanmanenia

Vanmanenia is a genus of loaches from China and mainland Southeast Asia.

Parabotia

Parabotia is a genus of loaches. Most species in the genus are endemic to China, but P. curtis is from Japan, P. dubius is from Vietnam, and P. mantschuricus is from the Amur River basin.

Gastromyzontidae

The Gastromyzontidae are a family of loaches native to China and Southeast Asia, where typically found in streams and rivers with a fast current. The family includes about 137 species in eighteen genera. This family was resurrected by M. Kottelat in his review and revision of the loaches in 2012. They are commonly called hillstream loaches.
