Tun Samy Vellu s/o Sangalimuthu was a Malaysian politician who served as Minister of Works from June 1983 to June 1989 and again from May 1995 to March 2008, Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and Posts from June 1989 to May 1995, Minister of Works and Public Amenities from September 1979 to June 1983 and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sungai Siput from September 1974 to March 2008. He was a member and served as 7th President of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), a component party of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, from October 1979 to December 2010. He is the longest-serving MIC president by holding the position for 31 years and one of the longest-serving Cabinet ministers by being in the Cabinet for 29 years. In December 2010, he announced his retirement from politics, paving the way for then MIC Deputy President G. Palanivel to succeed him as the new party president.
Teresa Kok Suh Sim is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Seputeh since November 1999. She served as the Minister of Primary Industries in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 and Senior Member of the Selangor State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) state administration under former Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim as well as Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kinrara from March 2008 to May 2013. She is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the PH coalition.
Ong Ka Ting is a Malaysian politician. He was the former Housing and Local Government Minister from 1999 to 2008 and Acting Transport Minister from May to June 2003 in the Malaysian cabinet. Ong also served as the seventh president of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a major component party in Barisan Nasional (BN); from May 2003 to October 2008. He was appointed Special Envoy of Malaysia to China on 1 November 2011. He relinquished the Special Envoy's post on 31 December 2017 after serving three terms.
Tan Sri Dato' Haji Mahiaddin bin Md. Yasin, commonly known as Muhyiddin bin Mohd. Yassin, is a Malaysian politician who served as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia from March 2020 to August 2021. Appointed as prime minister amid a political crisis, Muhyiddin served for 17 months and resigned after losing parliamentary support, making him the second shortest-serving prime minister in Malaysian history after Ismail Sabri Yaakob. He is the first prime minister to appoint senior ministers under his administration.
General elections were held in Malaysia on Saturday, 8 March 2008. Voting took place in all 222 parliamentary constituencies of Malaysia, each electing one Member of Parliament to the Dewan Rakyat, the dominant house of Parliament. State elections also took place in 505 state constituencies in 12 out of 13 states on the same day.
Ong Ka Chuan is a Malaysian politician and was the Member of Parliament for Tanjung Malim, Perak from March 2008 to May 2018. Ong was the secretary-general for twice for the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a component party of the Barisan Nasional coalition. The first time he was elected by the 7th MCA President Ong Ka Ting who is also his younger brother on 30 August 2005 and the second time by the 10th MCA President Liow Tiong Lai on 2 January 2014.
Mohamed Azmin bin Ali is a Malaysian politician who served as Senior Minister of the Economic Cluster and as Minister of International Trade and Industry from 2020 to 2022. A member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU), which is the component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, he served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gombak from 2008 to 2022 and Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bukit Antarabangsa from 2008 to 2023. He is the current Leader of Opposition of Selangor and Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Hulu Kelang since August 2023.
Dato' Sri Haji Tajuddin bin Abdul Rahman is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Pasir Salak from March 2008 to November 2022, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Najib Razak and former Ministers Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Ahmad Shabery Cheek from May 2013 to the collapse of BN administration in May 2018 and Member of the Perak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kampong Gajah from March 2004 to March 2008. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the ruling BN coalition. He also served as member of the supreme council of UMNO before his removal from the position in June 2022.
Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob is a Malaysian lawyer and politician who served as the 9th Prime Minister of Malaysia from August 2021 to November 2022. He is both the shortest-serving Prime Minister, and shortest-serving Deputy Prime Minister. He is also the first Prime Minister born after the independence of Malaya, the first former Leader of the Opposition to become Prime Minister, and the only Prime Minister to serve without a deputy.
Tan Kok Wai is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cheras since April 1995. He served as the Special Envoy of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to China from August 2018 to March 2020 as well as the MP for Sungai Besi from August 1986 to April 1995. He is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. He has served as the 1st Advisor of DAP since March 2022 and 1st Chairman of PH of Kuala Lumpur since August 2017. He served as the 4th National Chairman of DAP from March 2014 to March 2022 and National Deputy Chairman. He is also presently the longest-serving MP by serving since 1986 for 37 years as of 2023 after Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah failed to be reelected as an MP in 2022.
Tiong King Sing JP is a Malaysian politician who has served as Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim since December 2022 and the Special Envoy of the Prime Ministers Muhyiddin Yassin, Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Anwar to China since April 2020, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bintulu since November 1999 and Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Dudong since December 2021. He served as Special Envoy of the Prime Ministers Najib Razak and Mahathir Mohamad to East Asia from January 2014 to June 2018. He is a member of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), a component party of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and formerly Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He has served as President of PDP since November 2017. In accordance with its expansion to West Malaysia in November 2017, the party was rebranded with its new name and logo from the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), a former component party of the BN coalition. He served as the 3rd Chairman of the BN Backbenchers Club from April 2008 to June 2013. He also served as President of SPDP from May 2014 to November 2017 and Deputy President of SPDP from March 2012 to his promotion to the SPDP presidency in May 2014 and previously the Treasurer-General of SPDP. Following the collapse of the BN administration after the 2018 general election and in the aftermath, a meeting between all Sarawak-based BN component parties was held on 12 June 2018, PDP decided to leave the coalition with the other three parties to form a new Sarawak-based political coalition in the meeting, namely the GPS coalition.

The 13th Parliament was dissolved by Prime Minister Najib Razak on 7 April 2018. It would have been automatically dissolved on 24 June 2018, five years after the first meeting of the first session of the 13th Parliament of Malaysia on 24 June 2013.
Ahmad Faizal bin Azumu, nicknamed Peja, is a Malaysian politician who served as the Minister of Youth and Sports in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration in August 2021, 12th and 13th Menteri Besar of Perak from May 2018 to his first resignation in March 2020 and again from March 2020 to his second resignation in December 2020. He also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tambun and Member of the Perak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Chenderiang from May 2018 to November 2022. He is a member, Deputy President and State Chairman of Perak, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN and formerly Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalitions. He has also served as the 2nd State Chairman of PN of Negeri Sembilan since May 2023. He was also the State Chairman of PH of Perak. He was one of the only two state leaders of Malaysia who has led state administrations of two different and opposing political coalitions alongside Mukhriz Mahathir.

General elections were held in Malaysia on Saturday, 19 November 2022. The prospect of snap elections had been considered high due to the political crisis that had been ongoing since 2020; political instability caused by coalition or party switching among members of Parliament, combined with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, contributed to the resignation of two prime ministers and the collapse of each of their respective coalition governments since the 2018 general elections.
The 2020–2022 Malaysian political crisis was triggered after several Members of Parliament (MPs) of the 14th Malaysian Parliament changed party support, leading to the loss of a parliamentary majority, the collapse of two successive coalition governments, and the resignation of two Prime Ministers. The political crisis culminated in a 2022 snap general election and eventual formation of a coalition government.
The Muhyiddin cabinet was formed on 10 March 2020, nine days after Muhyiddin Yassin was appointed as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia and dissolved 17 months and 6 days later on 16 August 2021, the day when Muhyiddin submitted his resignations as PM and of this cabinet. It was the 21st cabinet of Malaysia formed since independence. This cabinet was also known as the Perikatan Nasional Cabinet (PN-Cabinet) which combined 15 political parties from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties, with Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties and United Sabah Party (PBS) as allied partners providing confidence and supply.
Tey Kok Kiew is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Melaka State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state administration under former Chief Minister Adly Zahari from May 2018 to the collapse of the PH state administration in March 2020 as well as Member of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bandar Hilir from March 2008 to November 2021. He is a member from Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the PH coalition. He has served as State Chairman of DAP of Melaka for the second term since January 2023 and served the first term from December 2015 to his resignation in November 2021 following a huge defeat of DAP in the 2021 Melaka state election.
The Ismail Sabri cabinet was formed following the appointment of Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Prime Minister of Malaysia on 21 August 2021 and dissolved 15 months and 3 days later following the appointment of Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister on 24 November 2022. It was the 22nd cabinet of Malaysia formed since independence. Following the coalition's defeat in the 2018 general election, Barisan Nasional (BN) has formed its first cabinet. This cabinet also has the full support of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), three independent members of the Dewan Rakyat and conditional support of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
