St. John's Church, Secunderabad is a historic building, built in 1813, [1] in Marredpalli, Secunderabad. It is the oldest Christian church in Secunderabad. [1] [2]
The church was built for British troops of the Secunderabad cantonment. British troops were allowed to bring guns inside, after guns kept outside were stolen once during the 1857 War of Indian Independence. [3]
It was designated as a Heritage structure of Hyderabad in 1998.

Hyderabad State was an independent monarchy/princely state located in the south-central Deccan region of Indian Subcontinent with its capital at the city of Hyderabad. Tirumalagiri, previously spelt Trimulgherry, is a locality and a Mandal in the city of Secunderabad which falls under Secunderabad Revenue Division, and is a major suburb of Secunderabad, India. The name is an anglicization of Tirumalagiri. It is in the north of Hyderabad District. Trimulgherry used to be base for Britishers in colonial era and many britisher lived here even after the independence. Mainly many churches were built around this area for the British. Archbishop Samineni Arulappa, also known as S Arulappa, was an Indian Catholic clergyman who served as the Archbishop of Hyderabad from December 1971 through January 2000. Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway (NGSR) was a railway company operating in India from 1879 to 1950. It was owned by the Nizams of Hyderabad State, and its full name was His Exalted Highness, The Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway. The company began with a line built privately by the HEH, the Nizam, which was owned and operated by the company under a guarantee from the Hyderabad State, much to the dismay of the British authorities. Capital for the line was raised by issuing redeemable mortgage debentures. The Nizam's railway was eventually consolidated with the Hyderabad-Godavari Valley Railway (HGVR). In 1951, both the NGSR and the HGVR were nationalised and merged into Indian Railways.
