The Stained Class Tour was a 1978 concert tour by British heavy metal band Judas Priest where they toured in Europe, North America and Asia for the first time from 19 January to 5 August 1978 in support of the album Stained Class .

Overview

Europe

The English Assassins were the opening act.

North America

On 10 and 11 March the band supported Angel at Palladium in New York City. After that, the band supported Foghat and B.T.O. throughout the rest of March. The band then supported Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush.

The 1979 singles "Take On the World" and "Evening Star" feature live performances of "Beyond the Realms of Death," "Starbreaker," and "White Heat, Red Hot" recorded at the 9 May 1978 show in Cleveland. These same tracks are also featured on Priest, Live and Rare. "Better By You, Better Than Me" appears as a bonus track on the 2001 release of Stained Class which was recorded live at The Forum in Inglewood, California on 13 September 1990.

Judas Priest are an English heavy metal band formed in West Bromwich in 1969. They have sold over 50 million copies of their albums, and are frequently ranked as one of the greatest metal bands of all time. Despite an innovative and pioneering body of work in the latter half of the 1970s, the band had struggled with indifferent record production and a lack of major commercial success until 1980, when they rose to commercial success with the album British Steel.

Stained Class is the fourth studio album by English heavy metal band Judas Priest, released on 10 February 1978 by Columbia Records. It is the first of three Judas Priest albums to feature drummer Les Binks, as well as the first to feature the band's now well-known logo. The album features a cover version of "Better by You, Better than Me" by Spooky Tooth, which garnered the band a great deal of negative attention several years after its release when a pair of fans were allegedly influenced by the song to make a suicide pact. Nonetheless, Stained Class is regarded by some as one of Judas Priest's best albums.

Unleashed in the East is the first live album by the British heavy metal band Judas Priest, released in September 1979 on Columbia Records. It was recorded live over two nights in Tokyo during their Hell Bent for Leather Tour in February 1979. Upon release Unleashed became the band's best-selling album up to that point, reaching the US Top 100 and the UK Top Ten, eventually the album became one of the five Judas Priest albums to gain a RIAA platinum certification. It is the first Priest album to be produced by Tom Allom who would remain at the helm for the next decade for the band, and the last release to feature drummer Les Binks.

Exciter (band) Canadian speed metal band

Exciter is a Canadian speed metal band from Ottawa, Ontario, formed in 1978. Named after a song by Judas Priest, they are widely considered to be one of the first speed metal bands and a seminal influence of the thrash metal genre; the band was heavily influenced by a variety of music styles, including Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Rush, Jethro Tull and Grand Funk Railroad. The Mercenaries of Metal Tour was a 1988 concert tour by British heavy metal band Judas Priest, in support of their most recent release, Ram It Down. Unlike their other tours of the 1980s, no official Judas Priest release includes any live recordings from this tour. It was the final tour the band did with longtime drummer Dave Holland. The week before the tour started, the band visited Stockholm, Sweden for full production rehearsals at Hovet. Before the official tour start, the band played a few warm-up shows including one in a club in Amsterdam, Netherlands in early April 1988, where the footage for the Johnny B. Goode video was shot.

The Unleashed in the East Tour was a 1979 concert tour by British heavy metal band, Judas Priest, in support of their first live album, Unleashed in the East, where the band toured in North America and Europe from 1 September to 15 December 1979. This tour featured new drummer Dave Holland from Trapeze, who joined in 1979 after Les Binks departed the group, citing dissatisfaction with the band's desire to move towards a simplified radio rock sound which would give them legendary status.
