Summer Esperanto Study (Esperanto : Somera Esperanto-Studado, SES) is the biggest annual international event aiming to teach Esperanto. [1] It occurs every summer since 2007, lasts for a week and attracts up to 250 participants from 30 countries, [2] being aimed both at beginners and fluent speakers of the language. [3] The event is organised by E@I and usually takes places in Slovakia, with the exception of 2014 when it also occurred in Russia. It has been supported several times by the Slovak ministry of education and the local mayor. [4] In its first year, the event had a narrower focus and was called Slavic Esperanto Study (Esperanto : Slava Esperanto-Studado).

The main aim of SES is to teach Esperanto and three hours are spent each morning in Esperanto classes at five different levels, ranging from CEFR level A1 to C1. During the afternoon, there are lectures, workshops and games. In the evening there are concerts and a bar; artists who have performed at SES include Kim Henriksen, JoMo [5] and La Perdita Generacio. [6] During the week, excursions to the surrounding area also occur. [2] The teachers include renown Esperantists such as Bertilo Wennergren and Stano Marček  [ eo ]. [7]

In 2014, SES happened twice for the first time. Both events were supported by the World Esperanto Association and the World Esperanto Youth Organization. The first and bigger event took place from July 12 to July 20 in Nitra, Slovakia and was officially supported by the Slovak minister of education, Dušan Čaplovič, the president of Nitra Region, Milan Belica, and the mayor of Nitra, Jozef Dvonč. It was attended by 248 people from 28 countries. In addition to traditional Esperanto lessons, this edition of SES included for the first time a course of Esperanto literature and culture led by writers Jorge Camacho and Nicola Ruggiero  [ eo ]. [5]

From August 17 to August 25, a second SES took place for the first time outside of Slovakia, in Koltyshevo  [ ru ], Solnechnogorsky District, Moscow Oblast. 87 people from 10 countries attended the event that was co-organized by the Moscow Esperanto Association and the Russian Esperantist Union  [ eo ]. In addition to Esperanto lessons, it included a translation course and a Russian language course. [10]

2015

The tenth SES took place from August 11 to August 19 in Martin, Slovakia. It was supported by the Slovak minister of education, Juraj Draxler, the president of Žilina Region, Juraj Blanár, and the mayor of Martin, Andrej Hrnčiar. [8]

It began on 17 July 2010 and was completed on 25 May 2011. MŠK Žilina were the defending champions, having won their fifth Slovak league championship the previous season.

Union of Authors and Performers, or rather Zväz autorov a interprétov populárnej hudby (ZAI), is a Slovak not-for-profit trade organization that works to increase brand recognition of the local music scene and its artists. Headquartered in Bratislava, the union was co-founded by Martin Sarvaš, and it is best known for holding the annual ZAI Awards in the country.

The 2020–21 Slovak First Football League was the 28th season of first-tier football league in Slovakia since its establishment in 1993.

Presidential elections will be held in Slovakia no later than April 2024 according to the Constitution of Slovakia. The first round of the last presidential election was held on 16 March 2019, so the next election is expected to be held on 17 March 2024. It may, however, be held earlier under exceptional circumstances such as the resignation or death of the President.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Abram Kofman</span> Russian Esperanto poet (1865-1940)

Abram Antoni Kofman, also known as Abraham S. Kofman, was a Russian Esperanto–language poet. Born in Odesa, Kofman was an early supporter of Esperanto, and one of the first Russian Jews to be so, learning the language in 1889. Kofman was a high-profile member of the first school of Esperanto literature, and had his work featured in the first anthologies of Esperanto poetry. He was responsible for translations of several sections of the Hebrew Bible in both Esperanto and its daughter language, Ido. Kofman also influenced the development of the international religion Hillelism by the creator of Esperanto, L. L. Zamenhof in 1901. Eventually switching languages from Esperanto to Ido, and later Occidental, Kofman purportedly died during aerial bombing in Odesa.
