Surinamese Chess Championship

The Surinamese Chess Championship is organized by the Suriname Chess Federation (Dutch : De Surinaamse Schaakbond), which was established in 1955. It was first held in December 1945. The Surinamese Women's Chess Championship was first held in 1989. [1] [2]

André Kamperveen Stadium formerly the National Stadion is a multi-purpose stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname. Since its opening in 1953, the stadium has been the official home stadium of both football teams S.V. Transvaal and S.V. Sport Vereniging Leo Victor, known as SV Leo Victor, is a Surinamese football club which currently plays in the Hoofdklasse. They play their home games in Paramaribo at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadion.

SVB Topklasse

The Topklasse is a football championship for clubs run by the Surinaamse Voetbal Bond. The Topklasse is at the top of the system of Surinamese football championships. The league currently comprises twelve teams and operates a system of promotion and relegation. Seasons run from November to June of the next year, with teams playing 22 games in the regular season. The league was known as the Hoofdklasse but became Topklasse for the season of 2016/2017 and upcoming seasons. The Hoofdklasse name is now used by the former Eerste Klasse, the second division of Suriname.

SV Voorwaarts, Suriname

Sport Vereniging Voorwaarts is an association football club from Paramaribo, Suriname, which currently play in the Surinamese Topklasse.

The Surinaamse Voetbal Bond (SVB) Hoofdklasse is second-highest division overall in the Surinamese football league system after the Topklasse, where the top club is promoted to each season. The weakest club is relegated to the Lidbondentoernooi. The league was previously known as the SVB Eerste Klasse but became the Hoofdklasse for the 2016–17 season after Suriname's top division changed its name from Hoofdklasse to Topklasse.

The Suriname Athletics Federation is the governing body for the sport of athletics in Suriname. Current president is Dennis Mac Donald.

The title Surinamese Footballer of the Year has been awarded in Suriname since 1964. The award is determined by a poll of Surinamese sports journalists as members of the VSJS established in 2014, replacing the SOC who determined the winners in the years prior.

Roché Emanuelson is a Surinamese footballer who plays as a defender for Boma Star in the Hoofdklasse, and for the Suriname national team. He has also played for SV Transvaal, SV Robinhood, Royal '95 and SV Leo Victor in the past.

Sport Vereniging Arsenal commonly abbreviated as SV Arsenal, is a Surinamese football club based in Nieuw Amsterdam that played in the Surinamese Hoofdklasse, the highest level of football in Suriname. They play their home games on the Mr. Bronsplein in Paramaribo. Named after the English football club Arsenal, the club was founded on 6 February 1921, and won the National championship twice, in the 1938–39 and the 1939–40 season.

Roy Vanenburg is a Surinamese football manager and former player, who was last manager of Hoofdklasse club S.V. Transvaal. He spent most of his professional playing career with S.V. Transvaal, winning six Hoofdklasse titles, and two CONCACAF Champions Cups, finishing as the league top scorer in both 1968 and in 1971. He had previously played for H.V.V. and S.V. Robinhood before joining Transvaal in 1967.

Gilmar Jones Badminton player

Gilmar Jones is a Surinamese badminton player and national coach of the Surinamese badminton team. In 2015 and 2017, he became the champion in men's doubles event at the Surinamese National Badminton Championships. He is the current National mixed doubles champion of Suriname. He first won the mixed doubles title in 2017 with Priscille Tjitrodipo, and retained the National Surinamese title the following two years with different partners in 2018 with Rugshaar Ishaak and in 2019 with Anjali Paragsingh. His biggest international achievement to date is winning the Caribbean title in Men's Doubles with Dylan Darmohoetomo in 2016 at the Carebaco International in Aruba. Together with doubles partner Dylan Darmohoetomo he also reached the finals of the Carebaco International in 2018 held in his home town Paramaribo. Beginning of 2018 Gilmar Jones was appointed the head-coach of the National badminton team of Suriname.

Dewperkash Gajadin, is a Surinamese chess FIDE master (FM) (2010), Surinamese Chess Championship winner (1983), Chess Olympiad individual gold medalist (1984), FIDE Arbiter (2012).
