The International Chess Federation or World Chess Federation, commonly referred to by its French acronym FIDE, is an international organization based in Switzerland that connects the various national chess federations and acts as the governing body of international chess competition. FIDE was founded in Paris, France, on July 20, 1924. Its motto is Gens una sumus, Latin for 'We are one Family'. In 1999, FIDE was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As of May 2022, there are 200 member federations of FIDE.
Boris Vasilievich Spassky is a Russian chess grandmaster who was the tenth World Chess Champion, holding the title from 1969 to 1972. Spassky played three world championship matches: he lost to Tigran Petrosian in 1966; defeated Petrosian in 1969 to become world champion; then lost to Bobby Fischer in a famous match in 1972.

He has held the No. 1 position in the FIDE world chess rankings since 1 July 2011 and trails only Garry Kasparov in time spent as the highest-rated player in the world. His peak rating of 2882 is the highest in history. He also holds the record for the longest unbeaten streak at the elite level in classical chess.
The Paraguay national football team represents Paraguay in men's international football competitions, and are controlled by the Paraguayan Football Association. Paraguay is a member of CONMEBOL. Their nickname is the Albirroja, or red and white. The Albirroja has qualified for eight FIFA World Cup competitions, with their best performance coming in 2010 when they reached the quarter-finals. A regular participant at the Copa América, Paraguay have been crowned champions of the competition on two occasions. Paraguay's highest FIFA World Rankings was 8th and their lowest was 103. Fast chess, also known as speed chess, is a type of chess in which each player is given less time to consider their moves than classical chess time controls allow. Fast chess is subdivided, by decreasing time controls, into rapid chess, blitz chess, and bullet chess. Club Olimpia is a Paraguayan professional football club based in the city of Asunción. It promotes the practice of various sports, with most importance given to the football, rugby and basketball sides, football being the highest priority and most successful. The club was founded on July 25, 1902, by a group of young Paraguayans, and the name stems from the idea of its principal founding member, William Paats, a Dutchman based in Paraguay, who is considered the father of Paraguayan football for having introduced the practice of the sport in the South American country. Internationally, the club is referred to as Olimpia Asunción in order to distinguish it from Latin American football clubs of the same name.

The Pakistani Chess Championship is organized by the Chess Federation of Pakistan. Prior to 1970 four championships were held in West Pakistan without participation by players from East Pakistan. This changed in 1970 with the founding of the Pakistan National Chess Federation, which for the first time incorporated players and executive members from both parts of Pakistan, and the national championship that year was held in Chittagong. In 1977 the name of the organization was changed to the Chess Federation of Pakistan. The first Pakistani Women's Chess Championship was held in 2000.
The national chess championship of Mexico has been organized annually since 1973 by FENAMAC, the Mexican chess federation. Known since 1997 as the National Absolute Championship and previously as the National Closed Championship, it was initially organized as a round-robin tournament. However, several editions in the 1990s were organized as a series of elimination matches, and the championship is currently run as a Swiss-system tournament. In some years it serves as a qualifying stage for the FIDE World Chess Championship and is designated as sub-Zonal tournament 2.3.1 in such cases. A different tournament is the Mexican Open Championship, which is not limited to Mexican nationals and has been held annually since 1954.
The Malagasy Chess Championship is organized by the Madagascar Chess Federation, which was initially founded in 1970 and most recently revived in 2008 after a decade of inactivity. The national championship was first held in 1994. There is also a separate Malagasy Women's Chess Championship which was first held in 2009.
