The Portuguese Chess Championship is a yearly national chess championship of Portugal. It was established in 1911, but only from the 1950s it was played yearly, with a few exceptions.
The 2011 championship was decided in a match between IM Paulo Dias and FM José Padeiro, held 21–24 October 2011 in Coimbra.
The 2013 championship was decided in a match between IM Sérgio Rocha and IM Rui Dâmaso held 2–4 October 2013 in Barreiro.
Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas is a Brazilian sports club based in the neighborhood of Botafogo, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Although they compete in a number of different sports, Botafogo is mostly known for its association football team. It plays in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the top tier of the Brazilian football league system, and in the state of Rio de Janeiro's premier state league. In 2000, Botafogo finished 12th in a vote by subscribers of FIFA Magazine for the FIFA Club of the Century. They have won the Brazilian championship two times, in 1968 and 1995.
The South African Chess Championship was first organised in 1892 by the Cape Town Chess Club. It is now organised by Chess South Africa (CHESSA), the governing body of chess in South Africa. The tournament is normally held every two years. It is restricted to chess players resident in South Africa and participation is by invitation only.
Koneru Humpy is an Indian chess grandmaster. She's a runner-up of the World Championship and the winner of the World Rapid Championship 2019. In 2002, she became the youngest woman ever to achieve the title of Grandmaster aged 15 years, 1 month, 27 days. Humpy is a gold medalist at the Olympiad, Asian Games, and Asian Championship. She is also the first Indian female grandmaster.

The Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting was until 2020 an elite chess tournament held every summer in Dortmund, Germany. Dortmund was an invite-only event, with the exception that one slot at Dortmund was awarded to the winner of the annual Aeroflot Open in Moscow. After an interruption due to the covid pandemic, the meeting was relaunched as the Sparkassen Chess Trophy International Dortmund Chess Days.

The Santiago Island League (North) is a regional championship played in Santiago Island, Cape Verde. Prior to 2012, FIDE gave such recognition to a limited number of tournaments, with non-FIDE recognized tournaments annually naming a world rapid champion of their own. Since 2012, FIDE has held an annual joint rapid and blitz chess tournament and billed it as the World Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships.
