She became in 2004 Woman International Master (WIM), and was awarded the title Woman Grandmaster in 2012, becoming the first ever Turkish WGM. Yıldız won the bronze medal at the World Under-18 Girls Championship of 2007 and at the World Junior Girls Championship of 2009.

The Turkish Women's Handball Super League is the top professional league for Turkish women's handball clubs. It is administered by the Turkey Handball Federation, and the winners are recognized as Turkish champions. Established in the 1978–79 season as the Turkish Women's First League, it was renamed later to Super League. The current title holder is Muratpaşa Bld. SK (2011–12).

The Turkish Chess Federation is the governing chess organization within Turkey. The TSF was founded in 1954, and became a member of the FIDE in 1962. The federation was integrated into the General Directorate of Youth and Sports in 1991, gaining its official nationwide recognition. As of 2012, the president of the federation is Gülkız Tulay. Having over 800,000 licensed players, TSF is the largest sports Federation in Turkey.

Alexander Ipatov is a Ukrainian-born Turkish chess grandmaster. He is the top ranked chess player of Turkey. Ipatov was world junior champion in 2012 and Turkish champion in 2014 and 2015. Since 2012, he has played for the Turkish national team in the Chess Olympiad, World Team Chess Championship and European Team Chess Championship.

Kübra Öztürk is a Turkish chess player. As of the July 2012 FIDE rating list, she is ranked number 199 in the world and second in Turkey among female active players. She earned FIDE titles as Woman FIDE Master (WFM) in 2006, Woman International Master (WIM) in 2009 and Woman Grandmaster (WGM) on February 5, 2011.

Nilüfer Çinar Çorlulu is a Turkish Woman International Master (WIM) of chess. With nine national champion titles, she is one of the most successful female chess players in Turkey, being only second after Gülümser Öney, who has eleven titles, and equaled in 2013 by Betül Cemre Yıldız.

Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş is a Turkish chess prodigy and grandmaster. He was awarded the International Master title prior to turning 12, becoming the youngest individual from Turkey to achieve this title. In 2024, he became the fourth-youngest grandmaster in history. He also became the youngest player ever to achieve a 2600 FIDE rating in classical chess at just the age of 13 years and 4 months. Erdoğmuş is currently the youngest grandmaster in the world.
