TOI-755, also known as HD 110113, is a Sun-like star with a distance from the Solar System of about 346.5 light-years (106.2 parsecs ) and located in the Centaurus constellation. The discovery by Osborn et al. was published at the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society in 2021. [2]

Characteristics

TOI-755 has been classified as a G-type main-sequence star (yellow dwarf). It has a temperature of 5,730 kelvins (5,460 °C), and a solar mass of almost 1, similar to the Sun. [2]

Planetary system

The two planets that are orbiting TOI-755, TOI-755b and TOI-755c, were suspected since 2021. TOI-755b's temperature is over 1,570 K (1,300 °C) and TOI-755c's temperature is cooler at around 1,260 K (990 °C), which means they are Hot Neptunes. [2]

It was listed as entry number 34 in A Catalogue of Circumpolar Stars, published posthumously in 1838 by British astronomer Stephen Groombridge. Based upon parallax measurements taken by the Gaia spacecraft, the system is located about 11.6 light-years from the Sun. This positions the pair among the nearest stars to the Solar System.

Gliese 849, or GJ 849, is a small, solitary star in the equatorial constellation of Aquarius. It has a reddish hue and is invisible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 10.41. 4 Camelopardalis is a probable multiple star in the northern constellation of Camelopardalis, located 177 light years away from the Sun, based upon parallax. With a combined apparent visual magnitude of 5.29, it is visible to the naked eye as a faint, white-hued star. The pair have a relatively high proper motion, traversing the celestial sphere at an angular rate of 0.158″ per year. The system's proper motion makes it a candidate for membership in the IC 2391 supercluster. They are moving away from the Earth with a heliocentric radial velocity of 22.5 km/s.

GJ 3379 is the nearest star in the Orion constellation, located at a distance of 17 light years from the Sun based on parallax. It is a single star with an apparent visual magnitude of +11.31 and an absolute magnitude of +12.71, therefore, the star is not visible with the naked eye. It is positioned in the upper left part of the Orion constellation, to the SSE of Betelgeuse. This star is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +30.0 kilometers per second. In the past, this star had a relatively close encounter with the Solar System. Some 161,000±6,000 years ago, it achieved a minimum distance of 4.08 ± 0.20 ly (1.25 ± 0.06 pc).

2 Equulei is a double star system in the constellation of Equuleus.

33 Pegasi is the Flamsteed designation for a visual binary star in the northern constellation of Pegasus. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 6.2, placing it near the limit of naked eye visibility. Measurements show an annual parallax shift of 0.0298125″, which is equivalent to a distance of 109 ly (33 pc) from the Sun. It is drifting further away with a radial velocity of 24 km/s.

RX Telescopii Red supergiant star in the constellation Telescopium

RX Telescopii is an irregular variable star in the constellation Telescopium. It has a maximum magnitude of 6.45 and a minimum magnitude 7.47. It is a red supergiant with a spectral type of M3Iab, indicating the star is an intermediate-size luminous supergiant star.

Gliese 880 is a small red dwarf star in the northern constellation of Pegasus that may host an exoplanetary companion. No stellar companions to Gliese 880 have been discovered as of 2020.

S Cassiopeiae Star in the constellation Cassiopeia

BO Carinae, also known as HD 93420, is an irregular variable star in the constellation Carina.

Gliese 49 is a star in the northern constellation of Cassiopeia. Visually, it is located 106 arc minutes north of the bright star γ Cassiopeiae. With an apparent visual magnitude of 9.56, it is not observable with the naked eye. It is located, based on the reduction of parallax data of Gaia, 32.1 light-years away from the Solar System. The star is drifting closer to the Sun with a radial velocity of −6 km/s.

HD 44120 is a wide binary star system in the southern constellation of Pictor. Although visible to the naked eye, it is a challenge to view having an apparent visual magnitude of 6.44. The system is located at a distance of 118 light years from the Sun based on parallax, but it is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −2 km/s. It has an absolute magnitude of 3.57.

HD 155448 is a quintuple star system consisting of 5 young B-type stars. With an apparent magnitude of 8.72, it is too dim to be visible with the naked eye.

HD 42618 is a well-studied star with an exoplanetary companion in the equatorial constellation of Orion. With an apparent visual magnitude of 6.85 it is too faint to be readily visible to the naked eye. This system is located at a distance of 79.6 light years from the Sun based on parallax measurements. It has a relatively high proper motion, traversing the celestial sphere at an angular rate of 0.321″ per year. HD 42618 is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −53.5 km/s and is predicted to come as near as 42.6 light-years in around 297,000 years.

BAT99-7 is a WN-type Wolf-Rayet star located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, in the constellation of Dorado, about 160,000 light years away. The star has a spectrum containing extremely broad emission lines, and is the prototype for the "round line" stars, Wolf-Rayet stars whose spectra are characterized by strong and broad emission lines with round line profiles. The broad emission lines hint at an extremely high temperature of nearly 160,000 Kelvin, which would make it the hottest of all WN stars with known temperatures, as well as an extraordinarily large mass loss rate for a Wolf-Rayet star in the LMC, at 10−4.48 M/yr, which means that every 30,200 years, the star loses 1 solar mass worth of mass.

17 Delphini is a solitary star in the equatorial constellation Delphinus. It has an absolute magnitude of −0.64 and apparent magnitude of 5.18, allowing it to be faintly seen with the naked eye. Located 517 light years away, it is approaching the Solar System with a heliocentric radial velocity of −10.2 km/s.

HD 193721 is an astrometric binary in the southern circumpolar constellation Octans. It has an apparent magnitude of 5.77, allowing it to be faintly seen with the naked eye. Parallax measurements place the system 760 light years away from the Solar System and it is currently receding with a heliocentric radial velocity 8.6 km/s.

HD 194612 is a solitary orange hued star located in the southern circumpolar constellation Octans. It has an apparent magnitude of 5.9, making it visible to the naked eye under ideal conditions. Parallax measurements place it at a distance of 760 light years and it has a low heliocentric radial velocity of 0.3 km/s.

HD 182509, also designated as HR 7370, is an orange hued star located in the southern constellation Telescopium. It has an apparent magnitude of 5.69, making it faintly visible to the naked eye if viewed under ideal conditions. Parallax measurements place the object at a distance of 635 light years. It has a poorly constrained heliocentric radial velocity of −5 km/s, indicating that it is drifting towards the Solar System.
