S. Tarlochan Singh (born 28 July 1933) is an Indian politician. He is a Member of the Parliament of India,representing Haryana. He served as Chairman National Commission for Minorities from 2003 to 2006 (Union Cabinet of India cabinet minister status),was member,National Human Rights Commission of India,Govt. of India,2003 to 2006. He served as Vice Chairman,National Commission for Minorities from 2000 to 2003 (Union Cabinet of India,State Minister Rank).
He has done tremendous work for Sikhs around the world [ citation needed ]. He made huge efforts for the rescue and settlement of sikhs from Afghanistan after the civil war there [ citation needed ]. He published calendars and developed museums on Sikh history [ citation needed ]. He has traveled worldwide to educate people about the teachings and values of Sikhism [ citation needed ]. In 2008 he visited Maine in United States to give lectures on Sikhism to the students of Colby College [ citation needed ].He was awarded India's third highest civilian award the Padma Bhushan in 2021. Tarlochan Singh was born on 28 July 1933,to Shmt. Ram Piari and S. Balwant Singh in Dhudial,Punjab (now in Chakwal District,Pakistan). He is the eldest amongst three siblings. He did his early schooling in Khalsa School at Dhudial and then moved to Patiala at the time of Partition in 1947. The time after Partition was a very difficult time for him and his family. For some time he had to work along with his studies. He went to the Panjab University,Chandigarh to study economics and attained his master's degree in 1955. He is an alumnus of Mohindra College of Patiala.
After completing his master's degree in economics,Singh started his career in civil service as Public Relations Officer in Punjab. He served as Joint Secretary,Development,Punjab Markfed from 1972 till 1977. Markfed is the largest cooperative organization in Asia [ citation needed ]. He then served as Jt. Director,Public Relations Deptt in 1977 and served in this position till 1980. He was Additional Director,Department of Tourism,Culture,Museum and Archaeology,Government of Punjab from 1980 to 1982. He served as Director,Publicity and Public Relations of IXth Asian Games Organising Committee,New Delhi from 1982–1983.
During his stint as managing director of Delhi Tourism,he developed two of Delhi's most popular tourist places:Dilli Haat and Hauz Khaz Tourist Complex,for which he won Pacific Asia Travel Association Gold awards [ citation needed ].
Giani Zail Singh was an Indian politician from Punjab who served as the seventh president of India from 1982 to 1987 and 9th Chief Minister of Punjab. He was the first Sikh to become president.

The Chief Khalsa Diwan or Chief Khalsa Diwan Charitable Society is a Sikh organisation that is the central organization of various Singh Sabhas spread across Punjab,India. Unlike the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee,the C.K.D. is an apolitical body and only concerns itself with religious,educational and cultural issues. The organization originally controlled Sikh religious and educational concerns and was an advocate of Sikh political rights,though it presently is mostly limited to educational spheres. It was the main council of Sikhs until the birth of more radical organizations,such as the Central Sikh League,the S.G.P.C.,and the Akali Dal.
Sardar Hukam Singh was an Indian politician and the third Speaker of the Lok Sabha and second Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1962 to 1967. He was also governor of Rajasthan from 1967 to 1972.
Giani Gurdit Singh was born in Mithewal village in the state of Punjab,India. He was considered one of the greatest contemporary writers in Punjabi,and his book Mera Pind is regarded as a classic. Giani Gurdit Singh graduated as "Giani" from Punjab University,Lahore in 1945,and he specialised in literature,divinity,history and folklore. He was a member of the Punjab Legislative Council from 1956 to 1962. He contributed to the debates at that time and in the creation of Punjabi University,Patiala and the recognition of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib,Talwandi Sabo,as the 5th Takht of the Sikhs. He was General Secretary of the Singh Sabha Shatabadi Committee,Amritsar,renamed Kendriya Sri Guru Singh Sabha. As the editor of the magazine Singh Sabha Patrika, he focused on issues of importance to the Sikhs. He also established two Guru Granth Vidya Kendras,one in Chandigarh and another in Mehrauli,Delhi.
Gurmukh Singh Musafir was an Indian politician and Punjabi language writer. He was the 5th Chief Minister of Punjab from 1 November 1966 to 8 March 1967.

Mohan Singh was a British Indian Army officer,and later member of the Indian Independence Movement,best known for founding and leading the Indian National Army in South East Asia during World War II. Balwant Singh Ramoowalia is an Indian politician from Samajwadi Party. His father Karnail Singh Paras was a well-known Kavishar. Balwant Singh started his political career with student politics as a general secretary of Student Federation of India in 1963. He went on to join All India Sikh Students' Federation and was its president from 1968 to 1972. Later he joined Akali Dal and became Member of Parliament twice from Faridkot and Sangrur. He left Akali Dal to get elected to Rajya Sabha in 1996 and served as the Union Minister for Social Welfare.
Governor Ujjal Singh was an Indian politician who was a participant in the First Round Table Conference,opened officially by King George V on 12 November 1930. Ujjal Singh served as the Finance Minister of Punjab,Governor of Punjab,followed by acting Governor of Tamil Nadu. Prior to this he was one of Pre-Partition Punjab's largest landowners,owning thousands of acres in Hadali,Jaranwala,Mian Channu,Lyallpur,Montgomery,Sargodha and other areas.
The Singh SabhāMovement,also known as the Singh SabhāLehar,was a Sikh movement that began in Punjab in the 1870s in reaction to the proselytising activities of Christians,Hindu reform movements and Muslims. The movement was founded in an era when the Sikh Empire had been dissolved and annexed by the British,the Khalsa had lost its prestige,and mainstream Sikhs were rapidly converting to other religions. The movement's aims were to "propagate the true Sikh religion and restore Sikhism to its pristine glory;to write and distribute historical and religious books of Sikhs;and to propagate Gurmukhi Punjabi through magazines and media." The movement sought to reform Sikhism and bring back into the Sikh fold the apostates who had converted to other religions;as well as to interest the influential British officials in furthering the Sikh community. At the time of its founding,the Singh Sabha policy was to avoid criticism of other religions and political matters.
Vikramjit Singh Sahney is an Indian entrepreneur,educationist and social worker. Sahney has been conferred with the honour of Padma Shri by the President of India Smt. Pratibha Patil and International Peace Award by President of Mauritius Anerood Jugnauth at New Delhi. He is a Rajya Sabha member from Punjab. He has been selected for his contributions in social works.
Ganda Singh was an Indian Punjabi and Sikh historian and Padma Bhushan awardee. In addition to scores of research papers,booklets and pamphlets,he published over two dozen full-length volumes of historical value.
Raghav Chadha is an Indian politician and a member of the Aam Aadmi Party,who is serving as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha,the upper house of Indian parliament. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha by the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2022. He served as the former Vice Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board and a Member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly from the Rajendra Nagar constituency from 2020 till 2022. He is also a working chartered accountant.
