The Daily was the world's first iPad-only (with Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Facebook support added later) news app in the United States and Australia, owned by News Corporation.[ clarification needed ]

It was originally planned to launch The Daily in San Francisco on January 19, 2011; however, the launch was delayed by News Corporation and Apple. [1] The Daily was launched on February 2, 2011, at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City. [2]

The journal was placed "on watch" in July 2012 [3] due to disappointing results. Despite reporting over 100,000 paying subscriptions, the journal was losing an estimated $30 million annually. [4]

On December 3, 2012, News Corporation announced that The Daily would cease operations effective December 15 as part of a reorganization of News Corporation's assets. [5] [6] Its URL now redirects to the site of the New York Post.

News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch said The Daily "could not find a large enough audience quickly enough to convince us the business model was sustainable in the long-term". [7]

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Cain grew up in Georgia and graduated from Morehouse College with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He then earned a master's degree in computer science at Purdue University while also working full-time for the U.S. Department of the Navy. In 1977, he joined the Pillsbury Company where he later became vice president. During the 1980s, Cain's success as a business executive at Burger King prompted Pillsbury to appoint him as chairman and CEO of Godfather's Pizza, in which capacity he served from 1986 to 1996.

News America Marketing, often referred to as just News America, is a marketing business owned by News Corp. It publishes SmartSource Magazine, a weekly consumer-branded newspaper insert offering advertising and coupon promotions, delivered in over 1,600 newspapers in the U.S. and is one of three companies in the United States that control almost all the in-store ads and grocery coupons in the United States.

The 9–9–9 Plan was a tax proposal that was a centerpiece of Herman Cain's 2012 campaign for the Republican Party's nomination for president of the United States. It was introduced in August 2011. The plan called for the replacement of all current taxes, such as the payroll tax, capital gains tax, and the estate tax, with a 9% personal income tax, 9% federal sales tax, and a 9% corporate tax.

iOS 6 is the sixth major release of the iOS mobile operating system developed by Apple Inc, being the successor to iOS 5. It was announced at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 11, 2012, and was released on September 19, 2012. It was succeeded by iOS 7 on September 18, 2013.
