There are no formal criteria, but twin cities are generally comparable in status and size, though not necessarily equal; a city and a substantially smaller suburb would not typically qualify, even if they were once separate. Tri-cities and quad cities are similar phenomena involving three or four municipalities.

Menominee is the fourth-largest city in the Upper Peninsula, behind Marquette, Sault Ste. Marie, and Escanaba. Menominee Township is located to the north of the city, but is politically autonomous.
Randall is a town in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,285 at the 2020 census. The unincorporated community of Bassett and census-designated place of Powers Lake are located in Randall, and the town surrounds the village of Twin Lakes, a separate municipality.

It is located on the south bank of the Menominee River, at its mouth at Green Bay, part of Lake Michigan; to the north is Stephenson Island, part of the city preserved as park. Nathan Farragut Twining was a United States Air Force general, born in Monroe, Wisconsin. He was the chief of Staff of the United States Air Force from 1953 until 1957, and the third chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1957 to 1960. He was the first member of the Air Force to serve as Chairman. Twining was a distinguished "mustang" officer, rising from private to four-star general and appointment to the highest post in the United States Armed Forces in the course of his 45-year career.

Cornish Americans are Americans who describe themselves as having Cornish ancestry, an ethnic group of Brittonic Celts native to Cornwall and the Scilly Isles, part of England in the United Kingdom. Although Cornish ancestry is not recognized on the United States Census, Bernard Deacon at the Institute of Cornish Studies estimates there are close to two million people of Cornish descent in the U.S., compared to half a million in Cornwall itself and only half of those Cornish by descent.
Krok is an unincorporated community in the town of West Kewaunee in Kewaunee County, Wisconsin, United States. Krok is situated near the origin of the East Twin River and its tributary, Krok Creek, just west of East Krok. The community was founded by Czech immigrants from Bohemia, now in the Czech Republic. The Krok post office was established by Wojta Stransky in January 1875.

Valley Junction is an unincorporated community located in the Town of Byron in Monroe County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located at the intersection of Wisconsin Highway 173, Monroe County Trunk Highway G, and Monroe County Highway N.
Twin Buttes is a populated place on the east flank of the Sierrita Mountains approximately twenty miles south of Tucson, in Pima County, Arizona, United States. Named after a prominent hill located next to the town, Twin Buttes was founded as a small mining town circa 1903 and abandoned around 1930. Much of the actual town site is now buried underneath mine tailings, and all that remains is the Twin Buttes Cemetery.
