The Union Sportsmen's Alliance (USA) is a union-operated, union-dedicated, conservation organization. It is committed to uniting the more than six million active and retired AFL-CIO trade union members who hunt, fish, shoot and recreate outdoors into one community with a shared commitment to educate future generations of sportsmen and sportswomen, conserve healthy wildlife habitat and volunteer their time and skills for projects that improve outdoor access for all. In 2007 the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and Union leaders saw a unique opportunity to form a union-dedicated conservation based organization—the Union Sportsmen's Alliance. It was founded on January 15, 2007, at the SHOT (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trades) Show in Orlando, Florida.[ citation needed ]
In May 2010, just three years after its creation, the Union Sportsmen's Alliance grew strong enough to become a stand-alone hunting, fishing and conservation organization with more than 20,000 members from across the U.S. and Canada. In the fall of 2013, the Union Sportsmen's Alliance surpassed 100,000 members.[ citation needed ]
The organized environmental movement is represented by a wide range of non-governmental organizations or NGOs that seek to address environmental issues in the United States. They operate on local, national, and international scales. Environmental NGOs vary widely in political views and in the ways they seek to influence the environmental policy of the United States and other governments.
Aldo Leopold was an American writer, philosopher, naturalist, scientist, ecologist, forester, conservationist, and environmentalist. He was a professor at the University of Wisconsin and is best known for his book A Sand County Almanac (1949), which has been translated into fourteen languages and has sold more than two million copies.
Trophy hunting is a form of hunting for sport in which parts of the hunted wild animals are kept and displayed as trophies. The animal being targeted, known as the "game", is typically a mature male specimen from a popular species of collectable interests, usually of large sizes, holding impressive horns, antlers, furs or manes. Most trophies consist of only select parts of the animal, which are prepared for display by a taxidermist. The parts most commonly kept vary by species, but often include head, hide, tusks, horns, or antlers.
The Boone and Crockett Club is an American nonprofit organization that advocates fair chase hunting in support of habitat conservation. The club is North America's oldest wildlife and habitat conservation organization, founded in the United States in 1887 by Theodore Roosevelt and George Bird Grinnell. The club was named in honor of hunter-heroes of the day, Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett, whom the club's founders viewed as pioneering men who hunted extensively while opening the American frontier, but realized the consequences of overharvesting game. In addition to authoring a famous "fair chase" statement of hunter ethics, the club worked for the expansion and protection of Yellowstone National Park and the establishment of American conservation in general. The club and its members were also responsible for the elimination of commercial market hunting, creation of the National Park and National Forest Services, National Wildlife Refuge system, wildlife reserves, and funding for conservation, all under the umbrella of what is known today as the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.
Outdoor Life is an outdoors magazine about camping, fishing, hunting, and survival. It is a sister magazine of Field & Stream. Together with Sports Afield, they are considered the Big Three of American outdoor publishing by Money magazine. Outdoor Life was launched in Denver, Colorado, in January 1898. The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) coalition of conservation organizations, grassroots partners and outdoor related businesses, the main goal of which is increased federal funding for conservation while preserving access for hunters and fishers. It has lobbied policymakers to do more to address the challenge of climate change, which they say will have a significant impact on the sportsmen community and has teamed with the National Wildlife Federation and Trout Unlimited to form "Sportsmen for Responsible Energy Development", which works to preserve natural resources and forests.

Conservation in the United States can be traced back to the 19th century with the formation of the first National Park. Conservation generally refers to the act of consciously and efficiently using land and/or its natural resources. This can be in the form of setting aside tracts of land for protection from hunting or urban development, or it can take the form of using less resources such as metal, water, or coal. Usually, this process of conservation occurs through or after legislation on local or national levels is passed.

The Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation(CSF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, DC. Established in 1989, CSF's mission is to "work with Congress, governors, and state legislatures to protect and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting, and trapping". Initially, CSF provided a link of information and resources between the sportsmen's community and Members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus (CSC), and since has extended its legislative network across the United States, managing a network of bipartisan state legislative sportsmen's caucuses organized under the banner of the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC) and the Governors Sportsmen's Caucus (GSC).
Fair chase is a term used by hunters to describe an ethical approach to hunting big game animals. North America's oldest wildlife conservation group, the Boone and Crockett Club, defines "fair chase" as requiring the targeted game animal to be wild and free-ranging. "Wild" refers to an animal that is naturally bred and lives freely in nature. "Free-ranging" means an animal that is not restrained by traps or artificial barriers, so it has a fair chance of successfully escaping from the hunt.
John Frank Annoni is an educator, gun rights advocate, author and outdoor mentor and activist. He is known for founding the Camp Compass Academy, a non profit organization and educational system for outdoor activity mainly for youth and the awareness campaigns Hunting Awareness and 2 Million Bullets. In 2008, he was nominated by Outdoor Life as one of the OL25 for "changing the face of hunting and fishing".
George Oliver Shields who also wrote under the pseudonym Coquina was the editor of a pioneering American magazine for outdoors sports Recreation where he also took on a role as an activist for the conservation of wildlife. In a column in the magazine, he began to shame fish and game sportsmen who he deemed as not following sporting ethics. This eventually led to clashes with powerful people, resulting in his dismissal from the editorial position.
