Metuchen is a suburban borough in Middlesex County in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough is a commuter town of New York City, located in the heart of the Raritan Valley region within the New York Metropolitan area. The borough, along with Edison, is a regional commercial hub for Central New Jersey. The borough is 6 miles (9.7 km) northeast of New Brunswick, 17 miles (27 km) southwest of Newark, 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Jersey City, and 22 miles (35 km) southwest of Manhattan. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 15,049, an increase of 1,475 (+10.9%) from the 2010 census count of 13,574, which in turn reflected an increase of 734 (+5.7%) from the 12,840 counted in the 2000 census.
US Post Office-Tonawanda is a historic post office building located at Tonawanda in Erie County, New York, United States. It was designed and built 1939–1940, and is one of a number of post offices in New York State designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department under Louis A. Simon. The building is in the Colonial Revival style and features a central pavilion crowned by a cupola and flanked by end pavilions with gable roofs. The interior once featured a mural by Symeon Shimin, but it was removed and has disappeared. An addition to the north was added in 1964.
US Post Office—North Tonawanda is a historic post office building located at North Tonawanda in Niagara County, New York. It was designed and built in 1912, and is one of the number of post offices in New York State designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, Oscar Wenderoth. The two story building is in the Classical Revival style and features a colossal central portico with two pairs of coupled columns resting on granite pedestals and an elegant domed cupola.
U.S. Post Office-Ogdensburg is a historic post office building located at Ogdensburg in St. Lawrence County, New York. It was designed and built in 1867–1870, and is a two-story structure of regular ashlar stone blocks measuring 120 feet by 60 feet. It originally featured an octagonal domed cupola, but that was removed in 1906. It was designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department under Alfred B. Mullett. In 2009, the United States Congress enacted legislation renaming the building the Frederic Remington Post Office Building, in honor of painter Frederic Remington, who spent his formative childhood years in that city.

It was built in 1938, and is one of a number of post offices in New York State designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, Louis A. Simon. It is a symmetrically massed one story brick building with a stone watertable in the Colonial Revival style. The front section features a copper clad gable roof crowned by a square flat-topped cupola with Doric order pilasters and round arched vent openings on each face. The interior features a 1940 mural by artist Mary Earley titled Down-Rent War, Around 1845.

It is within the boundaries of the South Peterboro Street Commercial Historic District. It was designed and built in 1940, and is one of a number of post offices in New York State designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, Louis A. Simon. It is a one-story, three bay steel frame building with facades of red brick laid in common bond in the Colonial Revival style. It features a gable roof crowned by a square, wooden cupola. The interior features a 1942 mural by Alison Mason Kingsbury titled The Onion Fields.

It is a one-story, symmetrically massed building clad with random stone ashlar in the Colonial Revival style. The entrance is flanked by fluted, engaged Doric order columns and pilasters which support a simple entablature. The slate roof is topped by a square, flat topped cupola. The lobby features a 1941 mural by Harold Goodwin titled "Early Days of the Automobile."

The National Musical String Company is a defunct music string factory located at 120 Georges Road in the city of New Brunswick in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It was built in 1898 and was designed by the architect Ben C. DeKamp. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 20, 1982, for its significance in architecture, industry, and music.
The Benjamin Shotwell House, also known as the Shotwell–Runyon House, is a historic house located at 26 Runyon's Lane in the township of Edison in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in 1938, noted as being near Metuchen. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 4, 1987, for its significance in architecture and exploration/settlement. The farm on which is located in part of Route 287. The Shotwells were early settlers of "The Plains", an early reference to Plainfield, New Jersey.
The Ayers–Allen House is located at 16 Durham Avenue in the Borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The historic house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 5, 1985, for its significance in architecture. The c. 1740 building, also known as Allen House Tavern, for its previous function, was built by descendants of early settlers to Woodbridge Township and remained in the family for many generations.
The Metuchen Municipal Building, located at 500 Main Street, is the town hall for the borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The two-story concrete building, with brick facade, was built in 2003 and dedicated on September 1, 2005.
Neal A. Melick was an engineer who worked for the United States federal government. Melick was the supervising engineer for many federal construction projects. He is credited with a number of buildings now listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, often in conjunction with Louis A. Simon serving as supervising architect.
The Middlesex Avenue–Woodwild Park Historic District is a 89-acre (36 ha) historic district located in the borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 31, 2017, for its significance in architecture, social history, community planning and development. It includes 201 contributing buildings, five contributing objects, and one contributing site. The Borough Improvement League House, also known as the Old Franklin Schoolhouse, was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in 1936, and St. Luke's Episcopal Church in 1960.
Princeton Nurseries was a large commercial plant nursery located near Kingston in the township of South Brunswick, extending into the township of Plainsboro, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. Founded in 1913 by William Flemer Sr., it once was the largest commercial nursery in the United States. The company stopped operations here in 1995. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Princeton Nurseries Historic District on August 28, 2018, for its significance in agriculture and architecture. The 272-acre (110 ha) historic district includes 40 contributing buildings, three contributing structures and one contributing site.
The Milltown India Rubber Company is a historic building located at 40 Washington Avenue in the borough of Milltown in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. Construction of the building started in 1899 and was completed in 1900. Designed by architect George Parsell with vernacular Italianate style, it was part of the rubber industry in the county. The building features a five story tower and a tall smokestack. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 13, 1986, for its significance in architecture and industry.
The Saint Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church is a historic church building located at 190 Sandford Street in the city of New Brunswick in Middlesex County, New Jersey. It was constructed during the tenure of Rev. Pasquale Mugnano (1888–1971), from Naples, who was pastor of the parish from 1923 to 1970. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 3, 2010, for its significance in art and architecture from 1928 to 1959.
The Mary Wilkins Freeman House is a historic house located at 207 Lake Avenue in the Borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey. It was the home of the author, Mary Eleanor Wilkins Freeman (1852–1930). Built c. 1868, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 17, 2020, for its significance in literature from 1902 to 1907.
