The Wilmington Terminal Railroad( reporting mark WTRY) is a shortline railroad serving the Port of Wilmington (North Carolina). It began operations in 1986 over trackage owned by the North Carolina Ports Railway Commission, whose other lines (at Morehead City) were simultaneously leased to the Carolina Rail Services Company. The company is owned by Rail Link, Inc., a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc., [2] which acquired it from the Rail Management Corporation in 2005.

The Ports Railway Commission acquired the lines in 1980, and expanded its property, leased to WTRY, through a purchase of spurs from CSX Transportation in 1993. In 2002, the lines were transferred to the North Carolina State Ports Authority, in accordance with a recently passed state law. [3]

A branch uses trackage rights along Norfolk Southern from Kimbrough, Alabama west and south to Mobile, Alabama, with separate trackage at the end of the line in Mobile.

Goderich–Exeter Railway

The Goderich–Exeter Railway is a short line freight railway that operates around 181 miles (291 km) of track in Southern Ontario. Created in 1992, it was the first short line railway in Canada to be purchased from a class I railway, in this case Canadian National Railway (CN). It took over operation of further CN trackage in 1998. As of 2004, the railway has 44 employees. It is headquartered in Stratford, Ontario, and owned by short-line railroad holding company Genesee & Wyoming.

Galveston Railroad

The Galveston Railroad is a Class III terminal switching railroad headquartered in Galveston, Texas. It primarily serves the transportation of cargo to and from the Port of Galveston.

The Virginia Southern Railroad is a shortline railroad division of the North Carolina and Virginia Railroad, a subsidiary of the Genesee & Wyoming, with rights to operate 78 miles (126 km) of track between Norfolk Southern Railway connections at Oxford, North Carolina and Burkeville, Virginia. The southernmost segment between Clarksville, Virginia and Oxford is out of service.

Genesee & Wyoming American railroad holding company

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) is an American short line railroad holding company, that owns or maintains an interest in 122 railroads in the United States, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom. It operates more than 13,000 miles (21,000 km) of owned and leased track. The company had its roots in the Class III Genesee and Wyoming Railroad, which began in 1899.

Ventura County Railroad

The Ventura County Railroad is a class III railroad subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming, connecting the Union Pacific Railroad in Oxnard to South Oxnard and Port Hueneme. It began operations in 1998 under RailAmerica, leasing its lines from the Ventura County Railway, owner of lines first opened in about 1905 that have remained independent of larger carriers. The railroad serves industrial areas including the Port of Hueneme and Naval Facilities Expeditionary Logistics Center at Naval Base Ventura County.

Corpus Christi Terminal Railroad

The Corpus Christi Terminal Railroad is a terminal railroad originally created in 1924 to facilitate heavy bulk freight cargo traffic flow from the recently completed deep water port channel of the new Corpus Christi Port. Wishing to maximize freight handling potential while holding down rates, the Port Authority decided to allow traffic to all of its docks and facilities by no less than three competing railroads, the Southern Pacific, the Missouri Pacific and the Tex-Mex railroads. To accomplish this, the Port of Corpus Christi Authority built its own trackage along the channel and to the docks and allowed all three carriers access to it. While the Authority's scheme at first heightened tensions between the three railroads, they eventually began to cooperate, assuring a good flow of bulk freight and the eventual success of the Port facilities.

Indiana and Ohio Railway

The Indiana and Ohio Railway is an American railroad that operates 570 miles (920 km) of track in Ohio, southern Michigan, and parts of southeastern Indiana. It is owned and operated by Genesee & Wyoming, who acquired the railroad in the 2012 purchase of RailAmerica. The Indiana and Ohio Railroad was formed in 1978 to operate a branch between Valley Junction, Ohio and Brookville, Indiana. The IORY's original line, acquired in 1985, connected Mason and Monroe, Ohio. The IORY set up a tourist operation known as the Indiana and Ohio Scenic Railway which operated over this line. The tourist train still operates out of Lebanon, Ohio under the ownership of the Cincinnati Railway Company (CRC) under the name Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad. Another line, acquired in 1986, runs from Norwood to Brecon, Ohio. In 1991, the former DT&I between Washington Court House, Ohio and Springfield, Ohio came into the system via a designated operator agreement with the West Central Ohio Port Authority. The system expanded north into Michigan in 1997 when it acquired the remainder of the former DT&I mainline between Diann, Michigan and Springfield, Ohio. In 1994, it acquired two lines from Conrail in Springfield, Ohio: one between Springfield and Bellefontaine; and one between Springfield and Mechanicsburg. The Indiana and Ohio Central Railroad was the designated owner of these two lines until 2004. One of the I&O's major events took place in 1996 when it was acquired by RailTex. In 2000 RailTex was absorbed by RailAmerica and in 2004 the I&O absorbed the Indiana and Ohio Central Railroad. Genesee & Wyoming acquired RailAmerica in December 2012.

One Rail Australia Rail freight operator company

One Rail Australia is an Australian rail freight operator company. Founded by Genesee & Wyoming in 1997 as Australian Southern Railroad, and later renamed Genesee & Wyoming Australia, it was renamed One Rail Australia in February 2020. Aurizon negotiated to buy the business in October 2021, subject to ACCC approvals.

Mahoning Valley Railway

Mahoning Valley Railway (MVRY) is a short-line railroad in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States, owned by Genesee & Wyoming Inc. It has an interchange with Norfolk Southern Railway at its east end. The west end is Youngstown Belt Railroad which is also owned by Genesee & Wyoming. This services Youngstown, Ohio area for its steel mills. The line connects Struthers, Ohio with Youngstown.

Morehead and South Fork Railroad Terminal switching railroad

The Morehead and South Fork Railroad is a terminal switching railroad serving the port facilities of Morehead City, North Carolina and Radio Island with 9.5 miles (15.3 km) of track. Created in 2005 as a successor to Carolina Rail Services, the railroad was initially a Gulf & Ohio subsidiary before a change of contract in 2010 transferred operational responsibility to the Carolina Coastal Railway.

Iowa Pacific Holdings

Iowa Pacific Holdings was a holding company that owned railroad properties across North America and the United Kingdom, as well as providing services such as railcar repairs, leasing, management and consulting services to other operators. The company was founded in 2001 with headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.

AN Railway

The AN Railway is one of several shortline railroad companies owned by the Genesee & Wyoming parent company. It operates between Port Saint Joe, Florida and a connection with the Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad at Chattahoochee, Florida. The railroad no longer reaches its namesake city of Apalachicola, Florida, as the rails have been removed between Franklin and Apalachicola. The railroad operates approximately 96 miles (154 km) of track.
