    17365 Thymbraeus (provisional designation 1978 VF11) is a Jupiter trojan from the Trojan camp, which is located in Jupiter's trailing L5 Lagrangian point.

    Background

    It was discovered by Eleanor Helin and Schelte Bus at Palomar Observatory on 7 November 1978. [2] Thymbraeus is 45 kilometres (28 mi) in diameter and has an elongated dumbbell shape that is on the verge of splitting apart due to centrifugal forces of its rapid rotation. [4] The asteroid's density is less than that of water, indicating that it has a highly porous interior structure similar to a rubble pile. [5] [6] [4] It was given the name Thymbraeus on 27 February 2023, after one of the two sons of the Trojan priest Laocoön who was attacked by sea serpents for attempting to warn the Trojans about the Trojan horse in Greek mythology. The assumed C-type asteroid has a rotation period of 6.55 hours. It was named after Socus, a hero from Greek mythology, who was killed in battle by Odysseus.

    4035 Thestor, provisional designation: 1986 WD, is a large Jupiter trojan from the Greek camp, approximately 68 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 22 November 1986, by Japanese astronomers Kenzo Suzuki and Takeshi Urata at the Toyota Observatory in Toyota, Japan. The assumed C-type asteroid belongs to the 50 largest Jupiter trojans and has a rotation period of 13.5 hours. Of more than half a million numbered minor planets, it has been the second-lowest numbered body without a name, until May 2021, when it was named after Thestor, a grandson of Apollo from Greek mythology.

    2207 Antenor is a large Jupiter trojan from the Trojan camp, approximately 92 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 19 August 1977, by Russian astronomer Nikolai Chernykh at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Nauchnyj on the Crimean peninsula. The dark D-type asteroid is one of the 30 largest Jupiter trojans and has a rotation period of 7.97 hours. It was named for the Trojan hero and sage Antenor, from Greek mythology. In October 2018, it was reported that Antenor is likely a binary system. If confirmed, it would be 5th known binary Jupiter trojan.

    12444 Prothoon is a large Jupiter trojan from the Trojan camp, approximately 64 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 15 April 1996, by Belgian astronomer Eric Elst at the La Silla Observatory in northern Chile. The assumed C-type asteroid is one of the 60 largest Jupiter trojans and has a rotation period of 15.82 hours. It was named after Prothoon from Greek mythology.

The dark D-type asteroid belongs to the 50 largest Jupiter trojans and has a rotation period of 12.58 hours. It was named after Dracius from Greek mythology, who was a commander of the Epeans who fought against Hector.

    5025 Mecisteus, provisional designation:1986 TS6, is a larger Jupiter trojan from the Greek camp, approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) in diameter. The unusual C/X-type Jovian asteroid is possibly a slow rotator with a rotation period of 250 hours. It was discovered on 5 October 1986 by Slovak astronomer Milan Antal at the Toruń Centre for Astronomy in Piwnice, Poland. In 2021, it was named from Greek mythology after the Greek hero Mecisteus who fought in the Trojan War.

    5258 Rhoeo, provisional designation: 1989 AU1, is a Jupiter trojan and member of the Eurybates family from the Greek camp, approximately 53 kilometers (33 miles) in diameter. It was discovered on 1 January 1989, by Japanese astronomer Yoshiaki Oshima at the Gekko Observatory, east of Shizuoka, Japan. It was discovered on 27 February 1989, by Belgian astronomer Henri Debehogne at ESO's La Silla Observatory in northern Chile. The dark Jovian asteroid belongs to the 50 largest Jupiter trojans and has a rotation period of 18.5 hours. It was named for the ancient Greek port Aulis, mentioned in the Iliad.

The dark D-type asteroid is notably inclined and has longer-than-average rotation period of 27.8 hours. It belongs to the 50 largest Jupiter trojans. It was named from Greek mythology for Cteatus, the conjoined twin and father of Amphimachus.

    (23958) 1998 VD30, provisional designation:1998 VD30, is a Jupiter trojan from the Greek camp, approximately 47 kilometers (29 miles) in diameter. It was discovered on 10 November 1998, by astronomers with the LINEAR survey at the Lincoln Laboratory's Experimental Test Site near Socorro, New Mexico, in the United States. The dark Jovian asteroid belongs to the 110 largest Jupiter trojans and shows an exceptionally slow rotation of 562 hours. It has not been named since its numbering in April 2001.
