<span class="mw-page-title-main">Socialist Party of Chile</span> Political party in Chile

The Socialist Party of Chile is a centre-left political party founded in 1933. Its historic leader was President of Chile Salvador Allende, who was deposed in a coup d'état by General Augusto Pinochet in 1973. The military junta immediately banned socialist, Marxist and other leftist political parties. Members of the Socialist party and other leftists were subject to violent suppression, including torture and murder, under the Pinochet dictatorship, and many went into exile. Twenty-seven years after the 1973 coup, Ricardo Lagos Escobar won the Presidency as the Socialist Party candidate in the 1999–2000 Chilean presidential election. Socialist Michelle Bachelet won the 2005–06 Chilean presidential election. She was the first female president of Chile and was succeeded by Sebastián Piñera in 2010. In the 2013 Chilean general election, she was again elected president, leaving office in 2018.

It is located southeast of Brunswick Peninsula. It is often lashed with harsh Antarctic weather. The settlements are Puerto Harris, Puerto San Antonio and Puerto Almeida.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Vuskovic plan</span>

The Vuskovic Plan was the basis for the economic policy of the Popular Unity (UP) government of Chilean President Salvador Allende. It was drafted by and named after his first Economics Minister Pedro Vuskovic, who had worked before with the CEPAL. Although good results were obtained in 1970, hyperinflation made a comeback in 1972. By 1973, Chile was in shambles – inflation was hundreds of percents, the country had no foreign reserves, and GDP was falling.

<i>Cissus striata</i> Species of vine

Cissus striata is a climbing plant of the family Vitaceae. The plant is found in south-central Chile with a distribution range from Coquimbo to Magallanes regions. It is also found in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia. It has a woody stem that looks reddish when it gets older. Its leaves are composed by five folioles in a palmated shape.

The Hornitos Formation is a Campanian geologic formation of the Algarrobal Basin in the Atacama Region of northern Chile. The formation comprises limestones, sandstones, conglomerates, marls and tuff. Dinosaur remains are among the fossils that have been recovered from the formation, including the sauropod Arackar licanantay.

Dawson Isla 10 is a 2009 Chilean drama film, written and directed by Miguel Littín, a Chilean film director. The screenplay is based on Isla 10, a book by Sergio Bitar about his experiences as a political prisoner; "Isla 10" was the substitute name their guards imposed him during his imprisonment.

Rodolfo Almeyda Morando was an Argentine, naturalized Chilean, footballer who played as a midfielder or defender, usually in the position of centre-half. Almeyda played his early career in Argentina for Avellaneda Racing Club, and transferred to Chile in 1944. He initially won his fame playing for Universidad Católica, and later played for Unión Española and Palestino. He was part of the 1949 Universidad Católica team that won the Primera División de Chile and was also part of the 1955 Palestino team that won the Primera División de Chile.

The Popular Socialist Party was a Chilean left-wing political party that existed between 1948 and 1957. It was the result of the division of the Socialist Party of Chile in 1948 by voting and promulgation of Law No. 8,987 of Defense of Democracy in which the PS was divided in its vote and support among pro-communist and anti-communist.

The People's Democratic Movement was a Chilean left-wing political coalition created on September 20, 1983, and dissolved on June 26, 1987. It was formed by the Communist Party of Chile, PS-Almeyda and the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR), plus factions of the Christian Left and the Popular Unitary Action Movement (MAPU). Its first president was the socialist Manuel Almeyda.
