The 2011 LDB was the first edition of Liga de Desenvolvimento de Basquete, the Under-22 Brazilian basketball league. It received support from the Federal Government to be realized and was a great success. The champion was Flamengo.

LDB is organized according to the rules of FIBA for international competitions: the participating teams are divided into groups of 8 teams each. The teams in each group play against each other, and the three best teams from each group qualify to advance to the next phase, which is a 6 team group stage. The top four teams of that group then advance to the Final Four. The best team of the Final Four is crowned the champion.

The Campeonato Carioca, officially known as Campeonato Estadual do Rio de Janeiro, was started in 1906 and is the annual football championship in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is under the authority of the FERJ or FFERJ.

Luís Carlos Nunes da Silva, nicknamed Carlinhos, played for Flamengo between 1958 and 1969. Because of his elegant football and his thin voice, he was known as "The Violin". In Flamengo, he won the 1961 Torneio Rio-São Paulo and twice the Rio State Championship.

Generation Adidas Cup Football tournament

The Generation Adidas Cup is a competition run by Major League Soccer for all U-17 MLS academy teams. As part of the "Home Grown Initiative," the Generation Adidas Cup focused on player development while providing elite competition for those involved. Liga de Desenvolvimento de Basquete (LDB) is an Under-20 age version of the top-tier level Brazilian men's professional basketball league, the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). The players need to be 20 years old and under to play in this tournament. It is a way to discover new players for future Brazilian national team generations, and for new young talents to be developed for the main teams of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB).

The 2001 Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol, or 2001 FIBA South American League, was the sixth edition of the top-tier tournament for basketball teams from South America. The tournament began on 12 February 2001 and finished on 13 April 2001. Argentine team Estudiantes de Olavarría won their first title, defeating Gimnasia y Esgrima de Comodoro Rivadavia in the finals. This tournament saw the only appearance of a team from outside South America, the NBDL Ambassadors from the United States, coached by Nate Archibald. The team played their only home game in the stadium of Unión de Santa Fe in the quarterfinals, where they lost the series 1–2 against Brazilian team Flamengo.

2017 Mundialito de Clubes International football competition

The 2017 Mundialito de Clubes was the fifth edition of the Mundialito de Clubes, a biennial international club beach soccer competition contested between top men's clubs from across the world. The tournament is loosely similar to the FIFA Club World Cup in association football, however participating teams are not regional champions, entering via invitation.

The 2019 Campeonato Carioca de Futebol was the 116th edition of the top division of football in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The competition is organized by FERJ. The top four teams in the final standings of the tournament not otherwise qualified will qualify to compete in the 2020 Copa do Brasil. Additionally, the top two teams not competing in any level of the national Campeonato Brasileiro qualify for the 2020 Campeonato Brasileiro Série D.

The 2019–20 Basketball Champions League Americas season was the 13th edition of the top-tier level professional club basketball competition in the Americas and first of the Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA) since launched by FIBA in September 2019. The competition began in October 2019, with the group stage, and would have been concluded in April 2020. On 14 March 2020, FIBA suspended all of its competitions until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition resumed on 27 October 2020 with an altered format, including a single-match final in Montevideo, Uruguay, on 30 October 2020.

The 2021 Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores was the 62nd edition of the CONMEBOL Libertadores, South America's premier club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL.

The 2020 Campeonato Carioca de Futebol was the 117th edition of the top division of football in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The competition was organized by FERJ. It began on 22 December 2019 and ended on 15 July 2020. On 16 March 2020, FERJ suspended the Campeonato Carioca indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil. The tournament resumed behind closed doors on 18 June 2020.
