The FIBA Asia Champions Cup, previously known as the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Champions Cup until 2002, [1] is the highest level Asian championship for professional basketball clubs. It is organised by FIBA Asia, and takes place once a year (since 1995).

Contents

FIBA has announced plans to expand the FIBA Intercontinental Cup to the champion teams from the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, Basketball Africa League (BAL), NBL from Australia, and possibly the NBA, at some point in the future. [2] [3]

From 2020 to 2022, the league was cancelled three seasons in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2017 FIBA Intercontinental Cup was the 27th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The cup winner was decided through one game, which was held on September 24, 2017. It was contested by the 2017 FIBA Americas League champions, Guaros de Lara, and the 2017 FIBA Champions League champions, Iberostar Tenerife. The title game was held at the Santiago Martín, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Champions of the EuroLeague were not allowed to participate by FIBA, due to the EuroLeague's dispute with FIBA.

Luis Miguel Bethelmy Villarroel is a Venezuelan professional basketball player who plays in the power forward position for the Venezuela national basketball team and currently plays for Piratas de Los Lagos in the Liga BásquetPro league. He is nicknamed as "the Tsunami". Luis was part of the Venezuelan squad during the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where the team ended up at 14th position.

The 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup was the 32nd edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament was held on 10 and 12 February 2023 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, on the Spanish island of Tenerife. It was the third time that the tournament is held in Tenerife after 2017 and 2020.

The 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup will be the 33rd edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament will be hosted in the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. It is the first time Singapore hosts the tournament, as well as the first time the tournament is being held in Asia.
