The 2024 Wheeling, West Virginia municipal election will be held on May 14, 2024, to elect members of the city council and mayor.
On January 17, 2024, Incumbent mayor Glenn Elliott is term-limited, and is instead running for the U.S. Senate, leaving an open competitive seat for the office. [1] Three candidates have joined in the race for mayor: 3rd Ward Wheeling Councilwoman Rosemary Ketchum, Wheeling Vice Mayor Chad Thalman, and retired longtime executive director for the Greater Wheeling Sports and Entertainment Authority, Denny Magruder. [2] Insurance agent J.T. Thomas has also put his hat in the ring for the mayor race of Wheeling. [3] Local businesswoman Beth Hinebaugh has also declared her candidacy for mayor. [4] Carl Carpenter has declared his candidacy as well. [5]

Carol Elizabeth Moseley Braun, also sometimes Moseley-Braun, is an American diplomat, politician, and lawyer who represented Illinois in the United States Senate from 1993 to 1999. Prior to her Senate tenure, Moseley Braun was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1979 to 1988 and served as Cook County Recorder of Deeds from 1988 to 1992. She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1992 after defeating Senator Alan J. Dixon in a Democratic primary. Moseley Braun served one term in the Senate and was defeated by Republican Peter Fitzgerald in 1998.
Sandra Bolden Cunningham is an American Democratic Party politician, who served in the New Jersey State Senate from 2007 to 2024, where she represented the 31st Legislative District. She was sworn into office on November 8, 2007. She is the widow of former Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham, who died in 2004.
