The Global T20 Canada is a 20-over cricket tournament played in Canada. [4] The first season of the tournament started in June 2018, with six teams competing. [4] However after four seasons, the future of the tournament was put in doubt after Cricket Canada announced the termination of their contract with Bombay Sports Limited on December 2024 for breach of contract. [5]
In January 2025 it was announced that a new cricket competition was being organized by British-based Star 333 Sports Inc., in conjunction with Cricket Canada, with former Indian cricket star Yuvraj Singh serving as the face of the competition. [6] [7] Super 60 League will be the first league in North America to feature both men’s and women’s competitions from the start.
Ingleton Liburd was named tournament director of the new league in February 2025. [8] In March 2025 former scotland captain Kyle Coetzer was announced as assistant tournament director. [9]
In July 2025 it was announced that the first edition of the tournament would take place that October, and would be hosted at BC Place in Vancouver, BC. [10] [11] Only seats in the lower bowl will be open. The tournament's head of media stated that this would be "probably the first high-level competitive cricket of this iteration to be played under the roof". Musical acts will perform concerts during breaks. [12]
The Logo launch event for Canada super60 was held in Niagara Falls. Yuvraj Singh, Saad Bin Zafar, Kyle Coetzer, Nicholas Kirton and other Canadian T20 Players were present at the event. [13]
The tournament will feature eight teams, each made up of local players, international stars, and a fixed quota of players from associate nations. To start, two of the eight teams will be women's squads. [14] [15]
