Tokyo International Film Festival

The 36th Tokyo International Film Festival is film festival that took place from October 23 to November 1, 2023. [1] German filmmaker Wim Wenders served as jury president. [2]

Contents

The official poster for the festival was created by fashion designer Koshino Junko and features actor and filmmaker Eiji Okuda alongside his daughter, director Momoko Ando and pays homage to Yasujirō Ozu's film Tokyo Story on the 120th anniversary of his birth. The festival organisers plans to honour Ozu and showcase his films throughout the festival. [3]

The festival opened with Wim Wenders' Perfect Days and closed with Takashi Yamazaki's Godzilla Minus One . [4]

Kinuyo Tanaka was a Japanese actress and film director. With her 1953 directorial debut, Love Letter, Tanaka became the second Japanese woman to direct a film, after Tazuko Sakane.

<i>Café Lumière</i> 2003 Japan, Taiwan film

Café Lumière is a 2003 Japanese film directed by Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien for Shochiku as homage to Yasujirō Ozu, with direct reference to the late director's Tokyo Story (1953). It premiered at a festival commemorating the centenary of Ozu's birth. It was nominated for Golden Lion at the 2004 Venice Film Festival. The film, with an all-Japanese cast, is set in Tokyo, where it was shot.

Tokyo-Ga is a 1985 documentary film directed by Wim Wenders, about Japanese filmmaker Yasujirō Ozu. An international co-production of the United States and West Germany, the film was shot in spring 1983. Its focus ranges from explicit explorations of Ozu's filmmaking—Wenders interviews Ozu's regular cinematographer, Yuharu Atsuta, and one of Ozu's favorite actors, Chishū Ryū—to scenes of contemporary Tokyo, featuring pachinko machines and plastic food displays. Wenders introduces the film as a "diary on film."

Zahra Amir Ebrahimi, known professionally as Zar Amir Ebrahimi, is an Iranian-French actress, producer and director. She rose to international prominence for her performance as journalist Arezoo Rahimi in the crime thriller Holy Spider (2022), for which she won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress and Robert Award for Best Actress.

Shigehiko Hasumi is a Japanese literary critic, film critic, French literature scholar, and novelist. He was a professor at the University of Tokyo, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the 26th President (1997-2001).
