The 6th annual Canadian Screen Awards were held on March 11, 2018, to honour achievements in Canadian film, television, and digital media production in 2017. [1] Nominations were announced on January 16, 2018. [1]
Emma Hunter and Jonny Harris hosted the ceremony, which was held at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto. [2] The awards in many of the technical and craft categories were presented in a series of advance galas throughout the week, promoted to as Canadian Screen Week, leading up to the main televised ceremony. [3] Anne with an E received the most nominations, with 13 in total. [3]
In the film categories, Maudie won the most awards, with seven, while Alias Grace , The Amazing Race Canada , and Cardinal all tied with six wins each in the television categories. [4]

The Earle Grey Award is the lifetime achievement award for television acting of the Canadian Screen Awards, and its predecessor the Gemini Awards. It can be presented to an individual or collaborative team, and may be presented posthumously.
The Margaret Collier Award is a lifetime achievement award, presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, to a Canadian writer for their outstanding body of work in film or television. Formerly presented as part of the Gemini Awards, since 2013 it has been part of the Canadian Screen Awards. It can be presented to an individual writer or writing team.
Denis McGrath was a Canadian screenwriter and producer. Born in New York City, he resided and worked in Toronto.

Jonathan Harris is a Canadian actor and comedian from Newfoundland and Labrador. Harris is best known for his roles in the television series Murdoch Mysteries, Still Standing and Hatching, Matching and Dispatching, as well as the films Young Triffie, Moving Day, and Grown Up Movie Star.
The 1st Canadian Screen Awards were held on March 3, 2013, to honour achievements in Canadian film, television, and digital media production in 2012. This was the inaugural Canadian Screen Awards ceremony, following the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television's decision, announced in 2012, to merge its formerly separate Genie Awards and Gemini Awards into a single ceremony. Karyn Pugliese (Pabàmàdiz) is a Canadian investigative journalist, press freedom advocate and communications specialist, of Algonquin descent. She is a status Indigenous person and a citizen of the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation in Ontario. Pugliese was chosen for the twenty-fifth Martin Wise Goodman Canadians as Nieman Fellow, and graduated in the Class of 2020, Harvard University. She is a frequent commentator on Rosemary Barton Live. In May 2023, she was appointed editor in chief of Canadaland after publisher Jesse Brown announced that he was stepping down from the role. She also hosts the podcast canadaLANDBACK. Pugliese is best known for her work as a journalist/executive director of news and current affairs at the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, and as the host of ichannel's #FAQMP.
The Gordon Sinclair Award is a Canadian journalism award, presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for excellence in broadcast journalism. Originally presented as part of the ACTRA Awards, it was transferred to the new Gemini Awards in 1986. During the ACTRA era, the award was open to both radio and television journalists; when it was taken over by the Academy, it became a television-only award.
The Donald Brittain Award is a Canadian television award, presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to honour the year's best television documentary on a social or political topic. Formerly presented as part of the Gemini Awards, since 2013 it has been presented as part of the Canadian Screen Awards. Emma Hunter is a Canadian actress and comedian. She is known for her recurring role as Nisha in the sitcom Mr. D, and as co-anchor with Miguel Rivas of the news satire series The Beaverton. She has also appeared in several other productions, including the television series L.A. Complex and Royal Canadian Air Farce, and the independent feature film Mary Goes Round (2018). In 2017, she was featured in the CBC web series How to Buy a Baby, and in 2020 she hosted the reality cooking competition series Fridge Wars.
Pat Ellingson is a Canadian television producer. consultant and executive. The head of children's programming at TVOntario from 1998 until her retirement in 2015, she played a prominent role in the development and expansion of the network's efforts in multiplatform digital media production, and was a producer or executive producer of shows such as Dino Dan, The Mysteries of Alfred Hedgehog, Wild Kratts, Annedroids, This Is Daniel Cook, Peep and the Big Wide World, Gisèle’s Big Backyard, Reading Rangers, Super Citizens and Tumbletown Tales. She won a Gemini Award in 2006 as producer of Gisele's Big Backyard.
