The Abierto Zapopan, also known as Abierto Akron Zapopan for sponsorship reasons, was a WTA 250-level professional women's tennis tournament. It used to take place on outdoor hardcourts, around the month of March at the Panamerican Tennis Center in the city of Zapopan, Mexico (Guadalajara metro area). [1] The tournament became a WTA 250 in 2021. Its inaugural edition in 2019 was held as a WTA 125 event. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was officially opened on 15 October 2010, in a ceremony and exhibition tournament featuring tennis professionals Andre Agassi and Jim Courier. The complex consists of a main court with a capacity of 2,592, 8 tournament courts, 4 practice courts and an underground parking lot. It hosted the tennis competition at the 2011 Pan American Games. For the games it had a temporary capacity of 6,639 for the entire complex.

The 2022 Monterrey Open was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 14th edition of the Monterrey Open and a WTA 250 tournament on the 2022 WTA Tour. It took place at the Club Sonoma in Monterrey, Mexico, from February 28th to March 6th, 2022. During this tournament, the WTA and other international governing bodies of tennis including the ATP did not have players of Russia and Belarus compete under their country flags as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Sloane Stephens defeated Marie Bouzková in the final, 7–5, 1–6, 6–2, to win the singles title at the 2022 Abierto Zapopan. It marked the first final and title for Stephens since 2018.

The Guadalajara Open Akron is a WTA 1000-level professional women's tennis tournament. It takes place on outdoor hardcourts, and was introduced in 2022 to be played in the month of October at the Panamerican Tennis Center in the city of Zapopan, Mexico. The tournament was introduced due to the suspension of all WTA tournaments in China following the Peng Shuai sexual assault and disappearance controversy and in Russia following the country's invasion of Ukraine. After successfully staging the 2021 WTA Finals in Guadalajara, the tournament organizers were hoping to host another big event in 2022 for which they were rewarded by WTA. The tournament has now been held for two consecutive years as a replacement for the Wuhan Open on the WTA calendar.

The 2023 Mérida Open Akron was a WTA 250 tournament organised for female professional tennis players on outdoor hard courts as part of the 2023 WTA Tour. The event took place at the Yucatán Country Club in Mérida, Mexico, from 20 through 26 February 2023 as a replacement for Abierto Zapopan. This tournament was the first of its class in the city of Merida, the main sponsor of the tournament was AKRON, and it was organized with a team formed by WTA representatives and GSSPORTS management a Mexican enterprise dedicated to conducting and directing this event under the lead of tournament director Gustavo Santoscoy.

The Mérida Open, also known as Mérida Open Akron for sponsorship reasons, is a women's tennis event held in Mérida, Mexico. The first edition took place in February 2023. Mérida Open is part of the WTA Tour and is listed as a WTA 250 tournament. The tournament was introduced in 2023 as a replacement for Abierto Zapopan.
