Akuapim South District is one of the thirty-three (33) districts in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 from the former Akuapim District . It was formerly part of the then-larger and original Akuapim South Municipal District until 6 February 2012, when it was split off to become a new Akuapim South District; thus the original remaining part was renamed as Nsawam Adoagyire Municipal District . The municipality is located in the southeast part of Eastern Region and has Aburi as its capital town.

Geography

Akuapim South Municipality lies in the southwestern part of the Eastern Region. It borders Suhum-Kraboa Coaltar in the northwest, and Akuapim North District in the northeast. It covers an area of 440 square kilometres (170 sq mi).

Topography

It has an undulating topography with two main ecological zones, the moist semi-deciduous forest and coastal savannah grassland. The district is dependent on the river Densu for water supply at the Akuapim South municipal water treatment plant.

The main ethnic group is Akan, followed by Ga and then Ewe. Nsawam is controlled by Akuapim South Municipal District (ASMD). As of 2013, Nsawam has a settlement population of 44,522 people. Nsawam is situated on the main railway between Accra and Kumasi and highway to Kumasi. It has Densu river acting as a border between itself and Adoagyiri. Densu River, is the main source of water for both domestic and industrial purposes for people in and around Nsawam.

Akuapim North Municipal District Municipal District in Ghana

Akuapim North Municipal District is one of the thirty-three districts in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 from the former Akuapim District; until it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 15 March 2012. Later in 2017, part of the district was split off to create Okere District. The municipality is located in the southeast part of Eastern Region and has Akropong as its capital town.

New Juaben Municipal District District in Eastern Region

New Juaben Municipal District is a former district that was located in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally created as a municipal district assembly in 1988. However on 2017, it was split out into two new districts: New Juaben North Municipal District and New Juaben South Municipal District. The municipality was located in the central part of Eastern Region and had Koforidua as its capital town.

Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar District District in Eastern Region

Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District is a former district in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988. Later on 28 June 2012, part of the district would be split off to become Ayensuano District; while it was upgraded to municipal district assembly status and renamed as Suhum Municipal District in that same year. The district assembly was located in the southern part of Eastern Region and had Suhum as its capital town.

Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Yilo Krobo District, after it was created from the former Kaoga District. Kpone Katamanso Municipal District is one of the twenty-nine districts in Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Tema Metropolis District on 1988, until a small portion of the district was split off to become Kpone Katamanso District on 28 June 2012; which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2031. It was later upgraded to municipal district assembly status on 15 March 2018; which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2271. The municipality is located in the central part of Greater Accra Region and has Kpone as its capital town.
