Mohiuddin Ahmad Alamgir (born 4 April 1950), better known as simply Alamgir, [3] is a Bangladeshi film actor and television host. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor and Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor a record nine times for his roles in the films Ma O Chhele (1985), Apekka (1987), Khotipuron (1989), Moroner Pore (1990), Pita Mata Santan (1991), Andha Biswas (1992) and Desh Premik (1994), Jibon Moroner Sathi (2010) and Ke Apon Ke Por (2011). Mohiuddin Ahmad Alamgir was born on 4 April 1950 at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in East Bengal to a Bengali Muslim family from Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria. [5] His father, Kalim Uddin Ahmed, was an executive producer of Mukh O Mukhosh , the first Bengali-language feature film to be made in Bangladesh. [5]
Alamgir made his debut with the film Amar Jonmobhumi (1972) directed by Alamgir Kumkum. He then went to star in Dasyurani alongside Shabana, [6] with whom he would later work in 130 films. [7] In 1975, Alamgir starred in Love In Shimla alongside Kabori, with whom he would later work in 26 films. [8] In 1986, he made his directorial debut with the film Nishpap. [5]
Alamgir has worked in television dramas and also as a presenter. Alamgir is the host of the game show Houseful on Maasranga Television. [9]
Alamgir was first married to lyricist Khoshnur Alamgir. [10] Together they had a daughter singer Akhi Alamgir and a son Tasvir Hassan. He later married singer Runa Laila. [11]

The Cinema of Bangladesh, also known as Bangla cinema, is a diverse and vibrant entity, consisting of films produced across various regions in Bangladesh, each contributing its unique linguistic and cultural perspective. Beyond the dominant Dhaka based Bengali-language film industry Dhallywood, which is a portmanteau of "Dhaka" and "Hollywood", Bangladesh is home to cinema in several other languages and dialects. For instance, Chakma cinema from Bandarban, Garo cinema from Sherpur, Meitei and Sylheti cinema from Sylhet, Chatgaiya cinema from Chattogram. These regional cinemas play a crucial role in preserving and promoting the linguistic and cultural heritage of the country. The dominant style of Bangladeshi cinema is melodramatic cinema, which developed from 1947 to 1990 and characterizes most films to this day. Cinema was introduced in Bangladesh in 1898 by the Bradford Bioscope Company, credited to have arranged the first film release in Bangladesh. Between 1913 and 1914, the first production company, Picture House, was opened. A 1928 short silent film titled Sukumari was the first Bengali-produced film in the region. The first full-length film, The Last Kiss, was released in 1931.
Sarah Begum Kabori was a Bangladeshi film actress and politician. Her notable films include Sutorang, Sareng Bou, Abhirbhab, Shat Bhai Champa, Sujon Sokhi and Lalon Fokir. She received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film Sareng Bou (1978) and Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
