AlphaTauri is a fashion brand founded in 2016 as a brand extension of Red Bull into the fashion industry. [1] The brand is named after the Alpha Tauri star, and pays tribute to the founding company, Red Bull. Its headquarters are in Salzburg, Austria.

Background

AlphaTauri launched its first campaign for the Autumn/Winter 2018 season. [2] The collection in 2018 included parkas, coats, shirts, sweaters, T-shirts, caps, belts and bags.[ citation needed ] In 2019, a pop-up store was presented, which is built into a truck and can be set up within 20 minutes and is around 60 square meters in size. Its first mission was planned for autumn 2020. [3]

In 2020, AlphaTauri launched a capsule collection of heatable clothes developed with Schoeller Textil and Telekom. [4]

Since its launch, the brand has participated in various international fashion fairs such as FashionTech [5] as well as the bi-annual Berlin Fashion Week, [6] where the brand showcased its use of 3D technology in clothing design, through 3D Knit lab from Japanese company Shima Seiki. [7] [8]

Activities

Alpha Tauri develops and patents its own textile technologies, such as Taurex, [9] [10] developed in collaboration with the Swiss company Schoeller Textil AG [11] specializing in the development and production of innovative fabrics and textile technologies. [12]

The brand had three flagship stores in 2022, one in Graz, one in Vienna and one in Salzburg. [13]

Scuderia AlphaTauri

Red Bull Racing (RBR) junior team Scuderia Toro Rosso was rebranded to Scuderia AlphaTauri in 2020 to promote the brand. [14] On top of the rebranding, the team was promoted to the sister team to RBR. [15] Pierre Gasly won the 2020 Italian Grand Prix while driving for the team. [16]

In 2024, the team was rebranded to RB Formula One Team. [17]

Sponsorship

AlphaTauri signed a two-year deal with Formula One to become the official premium fashion apparel supplier starting from 2022. [18] The brand became the FIA's first clothing partner in 2024 on a three-year contract. [19]

Scuderia Toro Rosso, commonly known as Toro Rosso or by its abbreviation STR, was an Italian Formula One constructor. It was one of two Formula One constructors owned by Austrian conglomerate company Red Bull, the other being Red Bull Racing. Toro Rosso functioned as a junior team to Red Bull Racing, with the aim of developing the skills of promising drivers for the senior team. The constructor made its racing début in the 2006 season, moving to complete independence from its sister team in 2010. The team changed its name to Scuderia AlphaTauri in 2020 to promote parent company Red Bull's fashion label of the same name.

The Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda has participated in Formula One, as an engine manufacturer and team owner, for various periods since 1964. Honda's involvement in Formula One began as a full team and engine entry in the 1964 season, and in 1965 they achieved their first victory at the Mexican Grand Prix. After further success with John Surtees, Honda withdrew at the end of the 1968 season due to difficulties selling road cars in the United States and Honda driver Jo Schlesser's fatal accident.

Franz Tost is a former racing driver and the former team principal of the Scuderia AlphaTauri Formula One team, a role he departed from at the end of the 2023 Formula One season.

The Scuderia Toro Rosso STR1 was the car with which the Scuderia Toro Rosso team competed in the 2006 Formula One season. It was driven by Vitantonio Liuzzi, who had started four Grands Prix for the sister Red Bull Racing team in 2005, and Scott Speed, a débutant who was the first American driver to compete in F1 since Michael Andretti in 1993. The STR1 was the first car from the Faenza-based team to use Michelin tyres since the Minardi PS02. The STR1 was also the first Toro Rosso F1 car to feature the mandatory 7-speed gearbox configuration. The STR1 was also the last Formula One car to utilize the 3.0 L V10 engine configuration to date, but with 16,700 rpm rev limiter and 77mm air restrictor.

The constructor was rebranded for the 2020 Formula One World Championship from "Toro Rosso" to "AlphaTauri" in order to promote Red Bull's AlphaTauri fashion brand. According to Franz Tost and Helmut Marko, the rebrand as Scuderia AlphaTauri also acknowledged that it had transitioned from Red Bull Racing's junior team to its sister team. Throughout its history, the team has only scored one victory and two podiums, all scored by Pierre Gasly, winning the 2020 Italian Grand Prix and placing third in the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The team was rebranded as RB in 2024.
