Archery at the European Games

Archery has been a European Games sport since the inaugural edition. Originall restricted to the five Olympic archery events using the recurve bow, three events in compound bow were introduced in 2019.

Archery is the sport, practice, or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus, meaning bow. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and recreational activity. A person who practices archery is typically called an archer, bowman, or toxophilite.

The World Archery Championships are a series of competitions in Archery organised by the World Archery Federation (WA). The first competition held under that title took place in 1931.

Para-archery classification is the classification system for para-archery used to create a level playing field for archers with a different range of disabilities. Governance in the sport is through the International Archery Federation. Early classification systems for the sport were created during the 1940s and based on medical classification. This has subsequently changed to a functional mobility classification with the exception of blind archery.

Archery at the 1999 Pan American Games was held from 04 to 8 August 1999. The events took place at a temporary site at Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Just like in the Olympics, the archery competition will be held using the recurve bow.

Mike Schloesser is a compound archer from Netherlands. He has won three medals at the World Youth Archery Championships, competed in the Archery World Cup and in the 2013 World Archery Championships he qualified 5th in the same event. He also competed in the men's team compound and mixed team compound event for Netherlands.

At the 2015 European Games in Baku, five events of archery were contested, all in the target archery format, with recurve bows. The events took place at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium over seven days of competition. The European Games format followed that of the Olympic Games with 64 men and 64 women competing in the recurve division, in individual and team events as well as in mixed team.

Archery at the Pacific Games was first contested at the 1971 games at Papeete. Archery was made a core sport in 2021, and is thus required to be included at every subsequent edition of the Pacific Games. It has also been included in the Pacific Mini Games, firstly at Norfolk Island in 2001 and then Port Vila in 2017.

At the 2019 European Games in Minsk, eight events of archery were contested, all in the target archery format. Five events were held with recurve bows and three with compound bows. The events in recurve are also used as Continental Qualification Tournament for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The women's individual recurve competition at the 2019 European Games was held from 21 to 26 June 2019 at the Olympic Sports Complex in Minsk, Belarus. It was the second time the event was held as part of the European Games archery programme. A total of 48 archers from 32 different nations entered the competition, with a maximum of three entries per country. The event offered one qualifying spot for the women's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics for any archer reaching the semi-finals from a nation that had not already qualified. The defending champion, Karina Winter of Germany, did not take part following her retirement from the sport.

Tatiana Andreoli is an Italian recurve archer. At the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus, she won the gold medal in the women's individual recurve event.

Michelle Kroppen is a German archer. She competed in the women's individual event, and women's team, at the 2020 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal.

Elena Aleksandrovna Osipova is a Russian archer. Her first major result was at the 2017 Summer Universiade held in Taipei, Taiwan, where she won the bronze medal in the women's team recurve event. At the 2019 Military World Games in Wuhan, China, she won the silver medal in the women's team event.

Robin Jäätma is an Estonian archer competing in compound events. He won the bronze medal in the men's individual compound event at the 2021 World Archery Championships held in Yankton, United States. He became the first archer to win a medal for Estonia in the history of the World Archery Championships.

Sanne de Laat is a Dutch archer competing in women's compound events. She won the silver medal in the women's team event and the bronze medal in the women's individual event at the 2021 European Archery Championships held in Antalya, Turkey.

Sarah Prieels is a Belgian archer competing the women's compound events. She won the gold medal in the mixed team event at the 2021 European Archery Championships held in Antalya, Turkey.

Ella Gibson is a British archer competing in compound events. She won the gold medal in the women's compound event at the 2022 European Indoor Archery Championships held in Laško, Slovenia. Archery at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games was held in Konya, Turkey from 14 to 18 August 2022. Traditional Turkish Archery Competitions was heldd at Saraçoglu Sports Venue between 15 and 16 August 2022. For individual competitions, qualification, elimination and final elimination round shots was done, and for team competitions, elimination and final elimination rounds of the teams was done. Qualification rounds in Archery was made accordingly: Men’s and Women’s Recurve bow was 70m. 720 rounds, and Men’s and Women’s Compound bow was 50m. 720 Rounds. Para Archery competitions was held in Saraçoğlu Sport Complex between 09-13 August 2022. Competitions were held in Recurve Bow, Compound Bow and W1 Bows was held in Senior category. The qualification rounds of the competition was done as 720 rounds 70 m for Recurve bows, and 720 rounds 50 m for Compound Bows. Individual elimination and final rounds was done in each category after qualification rounds.
