Arizona State Parks & Trails(ASPT) is the governing agency of all Arizona state parks. The agency was created in 1957, following the rapid growth of the post-World War II recreation and tourism industries in the American Southwest. [1] The agency manages 33 parks encompassing over 64,000 acres of land across the state. [2] ASPT also runs Arizona's State Trails Program, outdoor-related grants program, statewide outdoor recreation planning, the State Historic Preservation Office, the Office of Outdoor Recreation, and the Off-Highway Vehicle Program. [2] The agency's board was created in 1957, and currently has seven members plus an executive director. [3]

The agency was known as Arizona State Parks from its founding until March 2017. [4]
