The Asian Men's Handball Championship is the official competition for senior national handball teams of Asia (since 2018, also includes teams from Oceania), and takes place every two years. In addition to crowning the Asian champions, International Handball Federation (IHF) and Asian Handball Federation (AHF) the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the World Championship.

The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) is the governing body of handball and beach handball in Asia. It has 44 member countries, mostly located on the Asian continent, but excludes the transcontinental countries with territory in both Europe and Asia – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russian Federation and Turkey – which are instead members of European Handball Federation (EHF). Three other states located along the western fringe of Asia – Cyprus, Armenia and Israel – are also EHF members. It is also a member of the Asian Handball Federation. The IRIHF is responsible for organizing the Iran men's national handball team and Iran women's national handball team.

The Asian Women's Youth Handball Championship is the official competition for youth women's national handball teams of Asia, organised under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation. It takes place every two years. In addition to crowning the Asian champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Women's Youth World Handball Championship.

The AHF Asian Women's Handball Championship is a biennial continental handball competition contested by the senior women's national teams of the members of Asian Handball Federation (AHF). Handball in Kuwait was founded by Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who is a member of House of Sabah, the ruling family of Kuwait. He was also the first President of KHA.

The Kazakhstan Handball Federation (KHF) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball in Republic of Kazakhstan. KHF is a member of the Asian Handball Federation (AHF) and member of the International Handball Federation (IHF) since 1992.

The Handball Association of Thailand (HAT) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball in Thailand. HAT is a member of the Asian Handball Federation (AHF) and member of the International Handball Federation (IHF) since 1998.
