Astronarium is a Polish documentary and popular science television series about astronomy and space research. The program is produced by the Polish Television and Polish Astronomical Society, with support from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The series premiered on March 2, 2015 on the TVP Regionalna channel [1] [2] (now the name of this channel is TVP 3). It has been broadcast on various channels in Poland and abroad, including TVP 1, TVP 3, TVP Polonia. [3] The episodes are also available on the internet as a VOD, some of them with English subtitles. The cumulative audience in Poland during the first week of emission of an episode is on the level of 500,000 viewers (RCH parameter). [4]

Contents

The first season of 8 episodes was first broadcast from March to April 2015, the second season of 13 episodes from September 2015 to March 2016, the third season of 13 episodes started in April 2016.

Format of the series is about visiting science institutes and astronomical observatories, where scientists involved in research are explaining various topics about astronomy and space research. The series uses also CGI renderings, video footage, photographs. Each episode is about a particular topic.

Astronarium is also available at YouTube where it reached 100,000 subscribers on 23 October 2020, [5] and the most popular episode reached 1 million views on 18 October 2020. [6]

On January 15, 2018, Astronarium was a winner in "Media" category of the "Popularyzator Nauki 2017" contest organized by the Polish Press Agency and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. [7] Astronarium received Silver YouTube Creator Award in 2020.

The Sopot International Song Festival or Sopot Festival is an annual international song contest held in Sopot, Poland. It is the biggest Polish music festival altogether with the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole, and one of the biggest song contests in Europe. Telewizja Polska S.A., also known in English as Polish Television, is a public service broadcaster in Poland, founded in 1952. It is the oldest and largest Polish television network. After 2015, when the right-wing populist Law and Justice (PiS) party won the Polish parliamentary election, TVP progressively aligned with the speaking points of the PiS government. In the run-up to the 2023 Polish parliamentary election, TVP was designated as a "propaganda arm" of PiS by European media and as "a factory of hate" by the Polish opposition. However, after the electoral victory of the opposition party the Civic Platform in 2023, a newly-appointed Minister of Culture began a restructuring of the broadcaster and its news segment. On December 27, 2023, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, due to the President's veto on the financing of the company, placed it in liquidation.

Disco polo is a genre of popular dance music, created in Poland in the 1980s. It was initially known as sidewalk music or backyard music. This genre, a type of Polish urban folk music, had great popularity in the 1990s, peaking in 1995–1997, then gradually declining in popularity through the early 21st century. The genre then had a resurgence in the winter of 2007. The Polish PWN dictionary defines the genre as a Polish variant of disco music, with simple melodies and often ribald lyrics.

Poland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 26 times since its debut in 1994. The Polish participant broadcaster in the contest is Telewizja Polska (TVP).

TVP2 is a Polish public mainstream TV channel operated by TVP. Launched in October 1970, its varied line-up contains a variety of programming although it focuses on entertainment: stand up comedy, comic shows, cabaret, and themed talk shows.

Astronomia.pl was a Polish portal about astronomy and space research that was created in 2001 and remained active until 2015. At the time, it was Poland's largest portal about astronomy and space, hosting more than three thousand articles and attracting a hundred thousand visitors a month. The full name of Astronomia.pl was Polski Portal Astronomiczny. Astronomia.pl was mainly a Polish language website, with just a small part of its content presented in English.

TVP Info is a Polish free-to-air television news channel, run by the public state broadcaster TVP. It is focused on newscasts, mainly broadcasting nationwide news bulletins. Until 20 December 2023, its main offices were located in the Television Information Agency building at Warsaw Insurgents Square; since 29 December 2023 the channel's activities are carried out from the main TVP building on Woronicza Street, Warsaw.

Television in Poland was introduced on an experimental basis in 1937. It was state owned, and was interrupted by the Second World War in 1939. Television returned to Poland in 1952 and for several decades was controlled by the communist government. Colour television was introduced in Poland in 1971. Private television stations in Poland appeared around the time of the fall of communism, with PTV Echo becoming the first private station in Poland.

Artur Dariusz Orzech is a Polish journalist, musician, iranologist, radio and television presenter and music broadcaster.

The Polish Astronomical Society is science society in Poland, founded in 1923, with headquarters in Warsaw. Members of PTA are professional astronomers. Purpose of the association is promoting the development of astronomical science, their teaching and outreach in community. PTA is involved in publishing astronomical books, as well as popular science magazine Urania - Postępy Astronomii. PTA is also a producer of a TV series Astronarium about astronomy and space. The society organizes conferences and contests. Current President of PTA is Marek Sarna and number of members is around 280. Polish Astronomical Society is a member of the European Astronomical Society.

<i>Dziennik Telewizyjny</i> Polish television show

Dziennik Telewizyjny, commonly simplified to Dziennik, is a Polish daily television news program that was produced and broadcast by Telewizja Polska between 1958 and 1989, during the time Poland was under the communist dictatorship. It was Poland's second regularly televised newscast and the primary propaganda tool used by the Polish United Workers' Party during the Cold War. The final episode aired on 17 November 1989 and the program was replaced by Wiadomości on the following day, 18 November 1989.

Inwazja ("Invasion") is a half-hour film directed by Przemysław Wenerski and Marcin Tulicki, produced by Telewizja Polska which purports to reveal "the inside story, aims, methods, and money behind the LGBT invasion" of Poland. It was first broadcast on 10 October 2019 ahead of the 2019 Polish parliamentary election two days later, shortly after the prime-time news show Wiadomości.

Poland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "The Ride" written by Joakim Övrenius, Thomas Karlsson, Clara Rubensson and Johan Mauritzson. The song was performed by Rafał. In March 2021, the Polish broadcaster Telewizja Polska (TVP) announced that the Polish entry for the 2021 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands would be selected through an internal selection. Rafał and the song "The Ride" were announced as the Polish entry on 12 March 2021 during the TVP2 programme Pytanie na śniadanie.

Presidential elections will be held in Poland by 18 May 2025 at the latest, though they can be held earlier should the office become vacated as a result of death, resignation or removal from office of the incumbent. Due to constitutional term limits allowing a president to serve only two terms, incumbent president Andrzej Duda is ineligible for re-election. Presidential elections in Poland must take place on a free day between 75 and 100 days before the term's end.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Telewizja Republika</span> Television channel

Telewizja Republika or TV Republika is a Polish television station, whose editor-in-chief is Tomasz Sakiewicz. The channel can be received via satellite, via the Internet and terrestrial in the DVB-T system, as well as in the DVB-T2 system. From 2022, the channel broadcasts its program 24 hours a day. The live portion of its output in Polish is broadcast every day for 16 hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., while between 11:00 p.m. and midnight, the programs of the English-speaking editorial staff of the channel are broadcast.

Stanisława Ryster née Tirk was a Polish lawyer and presenter associated with the Polish Television (TVP), in the years 1975–2006 she was the host of the game show Wielka gra.
