Avinash Chander is an Indian politician and belongs to the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal. He is a member of Punjab Legislative Assembly and represents Phillaur. [1] [2] He is also the chief parliamentary secretary for Higher Education &Languages department.
His father's name is Mool Raj. His grandfather's name is Seth Kishan Dass. [3]
Chander was first elected to Punjab Legislative Assembly from Kartarpur in 2007. [4] In 2012,he successfully contested from the new constituency Phillaur. [1]
Gurnam Singh was an Indian politician and the 6th Chief Minister of Punjab from 8 March 1967 to 25 November 1967,and again between 17 February 1969 to 27 March 1970. He was the first Shiromani Akali Dal Chief minister of Punjab. His ministry fell due to defection of Lachhman Singh Gill,who became the next Chief Minister with the support of the Indian National Congress. He died in an air crash in Delhi on 31 May 1973.

A Legislative Assembly election was held in the Indian state of Punjab on 4 February 2017 to elect the 117 members of the Fifteenth Punjab Legislative Assembly. The counting of votes was done on 11 March 2017. The ruling pre-election coalition was the alliance comprising the political parties Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party and led by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. The voter turnout for the Punjab Assembly election was 77.2% The Indian National Congress led by former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh defeated the ruling alliance and the newcomer Aam Aadmi Party.
