Nalini Ranjan Mohanty is a retired IOFS officer and former Chairman & Managing Director of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). [1] He is a former president of the Aeronautical Society of India (ASI) and has been the chairman and managing director of Textron India. [2] A Fellow of the ASI and the Institution of Engineers (India), Mohanty received the Ruchi Prativa Samman in 2003. [3] The Government of India awarded him the fourth-highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2004, for his contributions to Indian industrial sector. [4]
Mohanty was born on 8 November 1944 in the Indian state of Odisha, joined the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela (present day National Institute of Technology) from where he graduated in mechanical engineering (BTech Hons) in 1965. [5] The same year, he joined NIT as a member of faculty and, later, resigned from there to join the Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS) [1] after securing the second rank in the All India Engineering Services Examination,. [2] As an IOFS officer, he worked in several ordnance factories in India including Gun Carriage Factory, Jabalpur and the Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi, and, in 1971, joined Hindustan Aeronautics Limited where he rose through ranks to become its chairman in 2001, the second civilian to hold the post. [1] Three years later, he superannuated from HAL and, in 2007, joined Textron India, the Indian subsidiary of the American conglomerate and the parent company of Bell Helicopters and Cessna Aircraft. Mohanty has served in many Public sector undertakings in India such as Kudremukh Iron Ore Company, Mahanadi Coalfields, Dynamatic Technologies, National Aluminium Company, Bharat Earth Movers and Sankhya Infotech in the capacity of non-executive director. [2] He has chaired two joint ventures, the Indo-Russian Aviation Limited and the British Aerospace-Hindustan Aeronautics Software Limited. [7] He was a member of the Kelkar Committee, headed by Vijay Kelkar, which examined the private sector participation in defence production, [8] and served the Society of Defence Technologists (SODET) as its chairman. [2] He is a former vice president of the Aeronautical Society of India (ASI) and is a Fellow of the Society. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India). [2] He received Ruchi Prativa Samman in 2003 [3] and the Government of India included him in the 2004 Republic Day Honours list for the civilian award of the Padma Shri. [4]
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is an Indian state-owned aerospace and defence company under Ministry of Defence,Govt. of India, headquartered in Bangalore. Established on 23 December 1940, HAL is one of the oldest and largest aerospace and defence manufacturers in the world. HAL began aircraft manufacturing as early as 1942 with licensed production of Harlow PC-5, Curtiss P-36 Hawk and Vultee A-31 Vengeance for the Indian Air Force. HAL currently has 11 dedicated Research and development (R&D) centers and 21 manufacturing divisions under 4 production units spread across India. Satish Dhawan was an Indian mathematician and aerospace engineer, widely regarded as the father of experimental fluid dynamics research in India. Born in Srinagar, Dhawan was educated in India and further on in United States. Dhawan was one of the most eminent researchers in the field of turbulence and boundary layers, leading the successful and indigenous development of the Indian space programme. He succeeded M. G. K. Menon, as the third chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1972.

Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli (OFT), also called Ordnance Factory Trichy, is a small arms factory operated by Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited based in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, which was previously part of Ordnance Factory Board of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Saroj Raj Choudhury was an Indian environmentalist, wildlife conservationist, writer and the first Forest Conservator under the Government of Odisha. He was also the founder director of the Simlipal National Park, in the Mayurbhanj district in the Indian state of Odisha. Choudhury was known for the pugmark technique he employed for tiger census and for his comradeship with Khairi, a domesticated tigress. His experiences with the animal has been documented in a book, Khairi: The Beloved Tigress, written by him and published in 1977. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1983.
