Ashutosh Sharma (born 22 August 1961) is an Institute Chair Professor and C V Seshadri Chair Professor at the Department of chemical engineering of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He is the founding Coordinator of DST Thematic Unit of Excellence on Soft Nanofabrication and Chairman of Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur. [1] He is best known for his pioneering research work in the areas of colloids, thin film, interfaces, adhesion, patterning and in the fabrication and application of self-assembled nano-structures. Ashutosh Sharma got his B.Tech degree in chemical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), India, in 1982. Sharma graduated with a master's degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1984 and three years later obtained his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University at Buffalo, where he worked with Prof Eli Ruckenstein. He was a member of the editorial board of Chemical Engineering Science from 2007 to 2010. Prior to it, he served on the editorial board of the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science (2000-2002) and Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering (2006-2008). Then, from 2011 to 2013, he was in the editorial board of Nanomaterials and Energy journal. From 2012 to 2014, he served as an associate editor of the Journal of Micro - and Nano-Manufacturing . From 2013 to date, he has been serving as an associate editor of ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces journal. [6]
He was appointed as the secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India on 9 January 2015 and served there till 31 August 2021. [7] He also served as President of Indian National Science Academy from 2023 till 2025.
He is an elected fellow of prestigious societies such as the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, Indian National Science Academy, Indian National Academy of Engineering, Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India. [8] In 2002, he received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award in engineering sciences for his "original pioneering contribution to the understanding of the behaviour of thin films and other highly confined nanoscale systems". [9] In the next year, he was awarded Herdillia Award by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers. Again, in 2007, he was awarded Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur. [10] And in the year of 2010, Infosys Science Foundation have awarded him with Infosys Prize in Engineering and Computer Science for his "scholarly scientific contributions in the broad areas of nanoscale surface pattern evolution, instability, and the dynamics of thin liquid and solid films and soft matter.". [11]
He is also a recipient of the 2008 TWAS Prize [12] and in 2017 of the H K Firodia award for his pioneering work on colloids, film interfaces, adhesion etc. [13]

Mriganka Sur is an Indian neuroscientist. He is the Newton Professor of Neuroscience and Director of the Simons Center for the Social Brain at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Krishnaswamy Vijayraghavan is an emeritus professor and former director of the National Centre for Biological Sciences. On 26 March 2018, the Government of India appointed him as the Principal Scientific Adviser to succeed Dr. R Chidamabaram. His term as Principal Scientific Adviser ended on 2 April 2022. In 2012, he was elected a fellow of The Royal Society and in April 2014 he was elected as a foreign associate of the US National Academy of Sciences. He was conferred the Padma Shri on 26 January 2013 and is also a recipient of the Infosys Prize in the life sciences category in 2009.

Sachchida Nand Tripathi an Indian scientist who works in the field of Atmospheric Sciences is the inaugural Dean of Kotak School of Sustainability at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and jointly with the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering. Prof. Tripathi has recently been honored with the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Medal 2024, given in recognition for conducting exceptional research in developing regions. In the past decade, Prof. Tripathi has undertaken seminal work in developing state-of-the-art air quality monitoring and management technologies in India. He is credited with implementing the first large-scale dense real-time sensor-based air quality network across two largest states located in the IGP region in India, which has encouraged several Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to adopt this technology for improving decision making. His work has directly impacted policy making at the national level, while continuing to guide over 25 Ph.D. thesis and mentored several successful startups who have gone on to become market leaders. Prof. Tripathi’s broad area of work in atmospheric sciences includes aerosol-induced cloud invigoration effect, regional climate changes, AI/ML-enabled dynamic hyper-local source apportionment and low-cost sensor-based air quality monitoring. He is leading an international center of Excellence on Advanced Technologies for Monitoring Air quality iNdicator (ATMAN) under the aegis of Principal Scientific Adviser’s office to Government of India. Prof. Tripathi is the Project Director of the “AI Centre of Excellence (AI-CoE) for Sustainable Cities,” an MoE initiative under the mission "Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India." The project focuses on scalable solutions for energy forecasting and logistic planning, digital twin for urban mobility, air quality monitoring and spike detection of pollution episodes, flood management, and smart microgrid planning, involving consortium of leading Higher Education Institutes in India and diverse industry partners to achieve optimal urban governance. In recognition of his significant contributions, Prof. Tripathi has been honoured with numerous awards in Physical Science as well as in Engineering. He is the recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, J. C. Bose Fellowship and Infosys Prize 2023 in Engineering and Computer Science. He is an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and National Academy of Sciences of India (NASI), and recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus award of Banaras Hindu University. He also holds the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Chair Professorship at IIT Kanpur. He obtained his B. Tech from IIT BHU in Civil Engineering in 1992 and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Physics from University of Reading, UK in 2001. After a brief stint of post-doctoral research at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and University of Oxford, Prof. Tripathi joined IIT Kanpur as faculty in 2003.
Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay is an Indian scientist specializing in computational biology. A professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, she is a Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize winner in Engineering Science for 2010, IInfosys Prize 2017 laureate in the Engineering and Computer Science category and TWAS Prize winner for Engineering Sciences in 2018. Her research is mainly in the areas of evolutionary computation, pattern recognition, machine learning and bioinformatics. Since 1 August 2015, she has been the Director of the Indian Statistical Institute, and she would oversee the functioning of all five centres of Indian Statistical Institute located at Kolkata, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, and Tezpur besides several other Statistical Quality Control & Operation Research Units spread across India. She is the first woman Director of the Indian Statistical Institute. Currently she is on the Prime Ministers' Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council. In 2022 she was given the Padma Shri award for Science and Engineering by the Government of India.
Murali Sastry is an Indian material chemist, nanomaterial scientist and the chief executive officer of the IITB-Monash Research Academy. He is a former chief scientist at Tata Chemicals and a former senior scientist at the National Chemical Laboratory. He is known for his studies on surfaces, films and materials chemistry and is an elected fellow of Maharashtra Academy of Sciences and the Indian Academy of Sciences. Amalendu Chandra is an Indian theoretical physical chemist, a professor and the head of the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He is known for his microscopic theories and simulations on liquids, interface and clusters. He is an elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy. Sandeep Verma is an Indian bioorganic chemist and chemical biologist, and a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK). At IITK, he heads Sandeep Verma's Research Group in the areas of ordered peptide assemblies, metal-mediated nanoscale systems, programmable soft matter for neuronal regeneration, novel antimicrobials, and small molecule-stem cell modulation. He is known for his studies on metastable soft matter and is an elected fellow of the Society of Rheology, Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences,The National Academy of Sciences, India, and Indian National Academy of Engineering. In 2015, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded Joshi the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology for his contributions to Engineering Sciences. In 2023, he received prestigious J C Bose fellowship constituted by the Science and Engineering Research Board, Government of India.
Avinash Kumar Agarwal is director of Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur. He is an Indian mechanical engineer, tribologist and a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He is known for his studies on internal combustion engines, Emissions, alternate fuels and CNG engines and is an elected fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (2013), Society of Automotive Engineers, US (2012), National Academy of Science, Allahabad (2018), Royal Society of Chemistry, UK (2018), International Society for Energy, Environment and Sustainability (2016), and Indian National Academy of Engineering (2015). Agarwal is among the top ten highly cited researchers (HCR) of 2018 from India, as per Clarivate Analytics, an arm of Web of Science.
Arun Kumar Shukla is an Indian structural biologist and the Joy-Gill Chair professor at the department of biological sciences and bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Known for his studies on G protein-coupled receptor, Shukla is a Wellcome Trust-DBT Intermediate Fellow and a recipient of the SwarnaJayanti Fellowship of the Department of Science and Technology. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences, in 2017/18. He received the 2021 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in Biological Science. He was awarded the Infosys Prize 2023 in Life Sciences his outstanding contributions to the biology of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs).
Sudhir Kumar Jain is the incumbent and 28th Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University. He is a civil engineer by education and has formerly served three terms as the founding director of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar. He has carried out intensive research and development in the fields of seismic design codes, dynamic of buildings, and post-earthquake studies. Beside these, Jain has actively participated in teaching, research activities and development in earthquake engineering focused on developing countries. He is an elected fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering. He was also elected a member of U.S. National Academy of Engineering (2021) for leadership in earthquake engineering in developing countries.
