The Battle for Yasynuvata was a series of battles in the summer of 2014 for the Yasynuvata in the Donbas region of Ukraine. Control over Yasynuvata was crucial in controlling the routes of communication between Donetsk and Horlivka.
During the battle, the city was captured by groups of pro-Russian militants.
Released August 4, 2014. [1] The next day, the city was handed over to the Donetsk People's Republic to avoid heavy casualties among the local population.
On August 17, this release was repeated by the 95th Brigade of the Armed Forces. [2] However, the fighting on the outskirts continued, [3] therefore, the final sweep of the city lasted for several days, fierce positional battles took place on August 18. [4] During these battles died Mushta Maxim Alexandrovich — junior sergeant, special purpose regiment of NMU Yaguar and Kondratenko Vasyl Oleksiyovych, soldier, 95th brigade.
On 17 August 2014 a massive "Grad" shelling of the town center took place, causing severe damage and casualties. In 2019 Alexander Khodakovsky admitted in Russian media that it was actually Russian army and he gave the order to "get rid of Ukrainian soldiers" who were in the town. [5]
On September 13-14, DPR militants attempted to knock Ukrainian troops out of their positions by forces of 1 tank, 3 armored personnel carriers and about 300 infantry under cover of jet and barrel artillery. [6] ATO forces repulsed an attempt to break through the militants and rejected the enemy a few kilometers from the city, Andriy Lysenko: "The militants acted under cover of artillery and fire from the installations Grad. [7]
September 17, Espresso TV with reference to the journalist Iintera Romana Bochkalu reported that the Ukrainian military lost control of the checkpoint near Yasinwy and retreated from the city for several kilometers. In March 2016, hostilities alongside Yasynuvata resumed as a result battles for control of the Donetsk highway — Konstantinovka.
The 2nd Battalion of Special Assignment "Donbas" is a unit of the National Guard of Ukraine subordinated to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and formerly based in Severodonetsk. Originally created in 2014 as a volunteer unit called the Donbas Battalion by Semen Semenchenko following the Russian occupation of Crimea and possible invasion of continental Ukraine. The formation of the unit started in the spring of 2014 during the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine. The unit was initially formed as an independent force, but has been since fully integrated into the National Guard as the 2nd Special Purpose Battalion "Donbas" within the 15th Regiment of the National Guard.
Semen Ihorovych Semenchenko is a former deputy to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on National Security and Defence and the commander-founder of the Donbas Battalion, a territorial defence battalion based in Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk Oblasts. He was a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from 2014 to 2019.
The Second Battle of Donetsk Airport was an engagement between the Ukrainian military and Russian military and its proxy forces of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) during the War in Donbas. An earlier battle in May 2014 had left Donetsk International Airport in Ukrainian control. The Great Raid of 2014, also known as the Raid of the 95th Brigade, took place from July 19 to August 10, 2014, during the War in Donbas. According to information from the Ukrainian government, units of the 95th Air Assault Brigade, reinforced with assets from the 25th Airborne and 30th and 51st Mechanized Brigades, conducted a 470 km raid, of which 170 km were behind enemy lines. During the raid, the 95th Brigade paratroopers entered into armed clashes with the Russian Army.
