The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Engineering is the engineering college of the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in San Luis Obispo, California. It has nearly 250 faculty members and more than 6,000 students enrolled in fourteen bachelor's and in eleven master's degree programs through nine engineering departments. [1] Its facilities house more than 80 classrooms, laboratories and work spaces occupying more than 160,000 square feet. In the 2021 U.S. News & World Report 's "America's Best Colleges" edition, the College of Engineering is ranked 8th out of 220 public and private undergraduate engineering schools in the U.S. where doctorates are not offered. General information

The College of Engineering is the largest of Cal Poly's six colleges, with 6,091 students (5,829 undergraduate and 262 graduate students), or 28.7%, of the 21,242 enrolled at the university in Fall 2019. [2] For engineering freshmen entering Fall 2020, Cal Poly accepted 31.01% of applicants (5,436 accepted/17,531 applied); admitted freshmen had an average GPA of 4.16, with the middle 50% range of ACT composite scores 29-34 and 1350-1520 for the SAT composite score (out of 1600). [4] Cal Poly San Luis Obispo offers 4+1 Master (5-year) programs for some engineering majors. The College of Engineering has almost 80 student clubs which offer project, leadership, service, conference and competition opportunities. According to the college, 90% of graduates are employed or enrolled in graduate school within a year after graduation.[ citation needed ]

Aerospace Engineering

The Aerospace Engineering program was ranked by U.S. News & World Report's 2021 "America's Best Colleges" report as 2nd overall (of the 5 programs ranked in engineering schools whose highest degree is a Master's). [5]

Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Bachelor of Science degree program stresses the team design concept and systems approach to problem solving and is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). [6]

The Civil Engineering program was ranked by U.S. News & World Report's 2021 "America's Best Colleges" report as 2nd overall (of the 19 programs ranked in engineering schools whose highest degree is a Master's). [7]

Environmental Engineering offers courses specializing in:

Prior to 1977, there was no Civil Engineering Department. The Transportation Engineering Department offered civil engineering courses as well as courses in transportation engineering. The Environmental Engineering Department began in 1969, but when Warren Baker was hired as president of the university, in 1979, he combined the Environmental Engineering and Transportation Engineering departments into the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department.

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department also includes the 2008, 2009, 2010 Robert Ridgway Award-winning Society of Civil Engineers (student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers) and the American Society of Civil Engineers 2010, 2011 and 2012 National Concrete Canoe Competition champions. The Society of Environmental Engineers placed 2nd for best chapter in AWMA in 2009. The Chi Epsilon Honors Society chapter won the inaugural Chi Epsilon (Pacific District) Cup, and are now ranked as the #1 chapter in California and Hawaii.

The Civil Engineering program was ranked by U.S. News & World Report's 2020 "America's Best Colleges" report as 3rd overall (of 11 programs in engineering schools whose highest degree is a Master's). [8]

Computer Engineering

The Computer Engineering major is an interdisciplinary program resting on the foundations of two departments: Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, and it is fully accredited by ABET. [9]

The Computer Engineering program was ranked by U.S. News & World Report's 2021 "America's Best Colleges" report as 2nd overall (of the 21 programs ranked in engineering schools whose highest degree is a Master's). [10]

Computer Science and Software Engineering

The department offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science programs accredited by the ABET. B.S. degrees are available in Computer Science, Software Engineering and Computer Engineering; an M.S. degree is available in Computer Science. The Software Engineering major began in Fall 2003 as the first undergraduate software engineering major in California. [11]

Electrical Engineering

The Electrical Engineering Department offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science programs in electrical engineering, which are accredited by the ABET. The department supports interdisciplinary programs such as Computer Engineering and many graduate as well as undergraduate students are served by the department. [12]

General and Biomedical Engineering

In the past, Biomedical Engineering was a concentration within the general engineering major. In 2005, the program was implemented with its own stand-alone curriculum.

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME)

The program was established in 1956, the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department trains students to design, install, and improve systems that integrate people, technology, materials, and information.

Materials Engineering

Cal Poly Materials Engineering is the only primarily undergraduate materials engineering program of the 53 Materials Science and Engineering departments in the United States. [15]

Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering program was ranked by U.S. News & World Report's 2021 "America's Best Colleges" report as 3rd overall (of the 30 programs ranked in engineering schools whose highest degree is a Master's). [16]

The Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering is the engineering college at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona located in Pomona, California, United States. Cal Poly has one of the "most recognized engineering programs in the country" and, with nearly 6,000 students, it is also the largest engineering college in Southern California, the second largest college of engineering in the California State University system, and the seventeenth largest engineering college in the United States. San Diego State University College of Engineering provides San Diego State University students with undergraduate and graduate engineering education. The College of Engineering offers eight degree programs. The Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Construction Engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

The G.W.C. Whiting School of Engineering is the engineering college of the Johns Hopkins University, a private research university in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Orfalea College of Business is one of six colleges at California Polytechnic State University.

The College of Engineering and Applied Science is the engineering and applied science college of the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is the birthplace of the cooperative education (co-op) program and still holds the largest public mandatory cooperative education program at a public university in the United States. Today, it has a student population of around 4,898 undergraduate and 1,305 graduate students and is recognized annually as one of the top 100 engineering colleges in the US, ranking 83rd in 2020.

The Henry Samueli School of Engineering (HSSoE) is the academic unit of the University of California, Irvine that oversees academic research and teaching in disciplines of the field of engineering. Established when the campus opened in 1965, the school consists of five departments, each of which is involved in academic research in its specific field, as well as several interdisciplinary fields. The school confers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

The Irwin and Joan Jacobs School of Engineering is an undergraduate and graduate-level engineering school offering BS, BA, MEng, MS, MAS and PhD degrees at the University of California, San Diego in San Diego, California. The Jacobs School of Engineering is the youngest engineering school of the nation's top ten, the largest by enrollment in the University of California system, as well as the largest engineering school on the West Coast and the ninth-largest in the country. More than thirty faculty have been named members of the National Academies. The current dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering is Albert P. Pisano. The Brown University School of Engineering is the engineering school of Brown University, a private Ivy League research university located in Providence, Rhode Island. Brown's engineering program is the third oldest civilian engineering program in the United States and the oldest undergraduate program in the Ivy League. The School of Engineering is noted for its historically prominent contributions to continuum and applied mechanics, originally led by European émigré researchers in the 20th century. Brown's Division of Engineering was elevated in 2010 to its current status as a school.

The Virginia Tech College of Engineering is the academic unit that manages engineering research and education at Virginia Tech. The College can trace its origins to 1872, and was formally established in 1903. Today, The College of Engineering is the largest academic unit of Virginia Tech and has 14 departments of study. Its undergraduate program was ranked 4th and its graduate program was ranked 30th among doctoral-granting universities by U.S. News & World Report in 2018. In 2014–15, the College of Engineering consisted of 10,059 students. The current dean is Dr. Julia Ross.

The California State University, Long Beach College of Engineering is CSULB's third-largest college, with 2022 enrollment of nearly 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The college is led by Dr. Jinny Rhee, who was appointed Dean in July 2021, after serving as Associate Dean of the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering at San Jose State University. The college was led by Interim Dean Tracy Bradley Maples from 2020 to 2021, and Dean Forouzan Golshani from 2007 to 2020. The college's mission is "to develop innovators who design and implement practical solutions to meet the ever-changing societal challenges of Engineering." The college celebrates the graduation of more than 1,000 new engineers each year.

The University of Missouri College of Engineering is one of the 19 academic schools and colleges of the University of Missouri, a public land-grant research university in Columbia, Missouri. The College, also known as Mizzou Engineering, has an enrollment of 3,204 students who are enrolled in 10 bachelor’s programs, nine master’s programs and seven doctorate programs. There are six academic departments within the College: Biomedical, Biological and Chemical Engineering; Civil and Environmental Engineering; Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering; Information Technology; and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. The college traces its beginning to the first engineering courses taught west of the Mississippi River in 1849. The college was ranked 88th nationally by the U.S. News & World Report in 2016.

The Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering is one of the seven colleges under San Jose State University (SJSU) in downtown San Jose, California, United States. This college is located on the northeastern side of the main campus, which is in the heart of the Silicon Valley. The vast majority of their resources are located in a four-story building known as the "Engineering Building." The college is named after Charles W. Davidson, who donated $15 million to the formerly known SJSU College of Engineering. Charles W. Davidson is a civil engineer for the City of San Jose and a real estate broker for companies he founded, such as DKD Property Management and L&D Construction.
