General elections were held in Malaysia on Sunday, 21 March 2004. Voting took place in all 219 parliamentary constituencies, each electing one Member of Parliament to the Dewan Rakyat, the dominant house of Parliament. They were the first elections for Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as Prime Minister following his appointment in 2003. State elections also took place in 505 state constituencies in twelve of the thirteen states on the same day as Sabah took the first time election was parallel with the rest of Peninsular Malaysia.
The Election Commission of Malaysia, abbreviated SPR or EC, is a commission set up for ensuring fair and equitable operations in undertaking the elections in Malaysia. The agency falls under the purview of the Prime Minister's Department.
Dato' Azimi bin Daim is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Kedah State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Barisan Nasional (BN) state administration under former Menteris Besar Syed Razak Syed Zain Barakbah and Mahdzir Khalid and Member of the Kedah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bandar Baharu from March 2004 to March 2008. He is a member of the Homeland Fighters' Party (PEJUANG) and was a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) and formerly Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalitions and the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the ruling BN coalition. Dato' Sri Dr. Wee Jeck Seng is a Malaysian politician who is the Chairman-designate of the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tanjung Piai from March 2008 to May 2018 and again since November 2019. He served as the Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities I for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Khairuddin Razali from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports in the BN administration under former Prime Ministers Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak as well as former Ministers Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Ahmad Shabery Cheek from March 2008 to his defeat in the 2010 MCA leadership election in June 2010 and Member of the Johor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Pekan Nanas from March 2004 to March 2008 as well as Chairman of the Labuan Port Authority (LPA) from March 2017 to June 2018. The Land Public Transport Commission, Abbr.: SPAD, was a Malaysian statutory body set up to plan for, regulate and enforce rules concerning land-based public and freight transport in Malaysia from 2010 to 2018. In lieu of this Commission, the public and freight transports rules and operations in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan were continue to be operated by the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board. In 2018, the SPAD was dissolved and rebranded as the Land Public Transport Agency which was absorbed into Ministry of Transport.
Adly bin Zahari is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Deputy Minister of Defence in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Minister Mohamad Hasan since December 2022, Member of Parliament (MP) for Alor Gajah since November 2022 and Member of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bukit Katil since May 2018. He served as the 11th Chief Minister of Melaka from May 2018 to March 2020 and State Leader of the Opposition of Melaka from April 2020 to December 2022. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of the PH coalition and was a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of formerly the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition. In AMANAH, he has served as its Vice-President since September 2021 and State Chairman of Melaka since August 2017. He was also the Treasurer-General of AMANAH prior to his promotion to the party vice presidency. He is also the sole Melaka AMANAH MLA.
Steven Choong Shiau Yoon is a Malaysian politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tebrau from May 2018 to November 2022. He is a member of the Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and was a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and formerly Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalitions. He has served as the Deputy President of PBM since February 2023. He served as the Senior Vice President I of PBM from January 2022 to his promotion to the party deputy presidency in February 2023. He also served as the Division Chief of PKR of Tebrau from 2014 to his resignation from the party in February 2021 and the Division Chief of PKR of Ayer Hitam from 2012 to 2013 as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of PKR from 2011 to 2014. During the 2020–2022 Malaysian political crisis and in February 2021, Choong resigned from PKR and became an independent MP supporting Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition along with Julau MP Larry Sng Wei Shien.
State elections were held in all states and territories in Malaysia except Sarawak on 9 May 2018, alongside general elections. Pakatan Harapan alliance received over 50% of the vote across the 12 states and territories where elections took place and won the most seats. They emerged as the largest faction in all states and territories except Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis and Pahang.
Hassan bin Abdul Karim is a Malaysian politician and lawyer who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pasir Gudang since May 2018. He was chairman of the Federal-State Relations Select Committee from December 2018 to November 2022.

Nik Mohamad Abduh bin Nik Abdul Aziz is a Malaysian politician who has served as a Senator since September 2023. Ahmad Jazlan bin Yaakub is a Malaysian politician who has served as Chairman of the FELCRA Berhad for the second term since March 2023 and first term from October 2021 to December 2022. He was also the former Secretary-General of the Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, as well as the former Barisan Nasional Penang Chief.
