Chigborough Lakes is an 18.6 hectare nature reserve in Maldon in Essex. It is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust. [1]

This area of former gravel pits has diverse habitats, lakes, marshes, willow carr, grazed grassland and scrub. More than 120 species of bird have been recorded, out of which over 40 have bred, including great crested grebes, grey herons and little egrets. There are eleven species of willow and several of orchid. [1]

There is access by from Chigborough Road. [1]

Hunsdon Mead

Hunsdon Mead is a 34 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) west of Harlow and east of Roydon in Essex. The site is partly in Essex and partly in Hertfordshire, and it is jointly owned and managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust and the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. The SSSI also includes part of the neighbouring Roydon Mead. The planning authorities are East Hertfordshire District Council and Epping Forest District Council. Hunsdon Mead is registered common land.

Sawbridgeworth Marsh

Sawbridgeworth Marsh is a 6.3 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) near Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire, apart from a small area in the north which is in Essex. It is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust. The planning authorities are East Hertfordshire District Council and Uttlesford District Council.

Rushy Mead

Rushy Mead is a 4.6 hectare nature reserve on the bank of the River Stort in Essex, between Sawbridgeworth and Bishop's Stortford. Until the 1950s it was the site of a pumping station for a sewage works. It is owned by Thames Water and Wimpey Homes, and managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust. The name Rushy Mead comes from an old map showing the area as riverside meadows.

Weston Turville Reservoir

Weston Turville Reservoir is a 19 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Weston Turville in Buckinghamshire. It is owned by the Canal & River Trust, and the open water is leased to sailing and fishing clubs while the surrounding land is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. The site is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Aubrey Buxton Nature Reserve

Aubrey Buxton Nature Reserve is a 9.7 hectare nature reserve west of Elsenham in Essex. It was donated to the Essex Wildlife Trust by Aubrey Buxton and his wife in 1976.

It is also part of the Blackwater Estuary National Nature Reserve, Site of Special Scientific Interest, Ramsar site, Special Protection Area and Special Area of Conservation, It is an important archaeological site, and includes a Scheduled Monument, Great Wigborough henge.
