It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Matala, in the east by the municipalities of Cuvelai, Namacunde, Cuanhama, west by the municipalities of Curoca and Cahama. It contains the communes of Xangongo, Ombala-Yo-Mungo, Naulila, Humbe and Mucope.
