Lucapa is a town, with a population of 110,000 (2014 census) [2] and a municipality with a population of 154,305 (2014 census), located in eastern Angola. Lucapa is the former capital of Lunda Norte Province.

Until the 2014 census its population was difficult to estimate as it has changed greatly over the last 15 years due to internal displacement caused by civil war and the subsequent resettlement.

Economy

The primary industry in the town is mining and several thousand residents are employed by the co-operative mining group formed by SML and ITM Mining.

Lunda Norte is a province of Angola. It has an area of 103,760 km² and a population of 862,566. Angola's first President, Agostinho Neto, made Lucapa the provincial capital after independence, but the capital was later moved to Dundo. The province borders the Democratic Republic of Congo in the northeast and Lunda Sul in the south. The province is rich in gold and diamonds, but remains vastly underdeveloped and impoverished. Malanje is the capital city of Malanje Province in Angola, with a population of 455,000, and a municipality, with a population of 506,847. Projected to be the thirteenth fastest growing city on the African continent between 2020 and 2025, with a 5.17% growth. It is located 380 kilometres (240 mi) east of Angola's capital Luanda. Near it are the spectacular Calandula waterfalls, the rock formations of Pungo Andongo, and the Capanda Dam. The climate is mainly humid, with average temperatures between 20 and 24 °C and rainfall 900 to 130 millimetres in the rainy season.

Cahama is a town, with a population of 12,767, and a municipality of Cunene Province, Angola. The population of the municipality was 70,061 according to the 2014 census in an area of 9,700 km2. The municipality consists of the communes Cahama and Otchinjau. There is an airport (FN17) to the north of the town.

Caconda is a town and a municipality in the province of Huíla, Angola. The municipality had a population of 167,820 in 2014.

Saurimo, formerly known as Henrique de Carvalho, is a city in Angola. It is the capital of Lunda Sul Province. As of 2014, Saurimo has a population of 393,000 people, which steadily grows as a result of migration.

Uíge, formerly Carmona, is a provincial capital city in northwestern Angola, with a population of 322,531, and a municipality, with a population of 519,196, located in the province of the same name. Caála is a town and a municipality located 23 km west of the city of Huambo, in the namesake province in Angola. Caluquembe (Kalukembe) is a town and municipality, with a population of 179,931, in the province of Huíla, Angola.

N'zeto is a town, with a population of 28,840, and a municipality located in the province of Zaire in Angola. During the Portuguese domain the town was called Ambrizete. The municipality has an estimated population of 56,199 (2019). It is served by N'zeto Airport.

Dundo, or Dundo-Chitato, is a former mining town, with a population of 177,604 (2014), now a city and the provincial capital of Lunda Norte in Angola. Established in the early part of the 20th century as a planned diamond mining community, Dundo has continued to grow, has its own airport and is now being superseded by a new city, New Dundo.

Alto Zambeze is a municipality in the Moxico province of Angola. It is situated near the Zambian border, with a population of 110,900 and a total area of 53,000 km2. The municipality's seat is the town of Cazombo, on the Zambezi river.
