The dottybacks are a family, Pseudochromidae, of fishes which were formerly classified in the order Perciformes, but this has been revised and the family is regarded as of uncertain affinities, or incertae sedis within the Ovalentaria, a clade within the Percomorpha. Around 152 species belong to this family.

Greenwoodochromis is a small genus of cichlid fish that are endemic to Lake Tanganyika in Africa. It is the only genus in the monotypic tribe Greenwoodochromini, however, some authorities have synonymised the Greenwoodochromini with the tribe Limnochromini.

Cypho purpurascens Species of fish

Cypho purpurascens. the oblique-lined dottyback or the lavender dottyback is a species of ray finned fish from the family Pseudochromidae which occurs in the western Pacific. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 7.5 centimetres (3.0 in) in length. These fish live in pairs, or are solitary, in or in the vicinity of crevices in the reef and holes located in tidal pools, lagoons and on the reef slopes.

Pseudovespicula Genus of fishes

Pseudovespicula is a genus of venomous ray-finned fishes, waspfishes belonging to the subfamily Tetraroginae, which is classified as part of the family Scorpaenidae, the scorpionfishes and their relatives. It has been considered to be a monotypic genus, containing only the type species, Pseudovespicula dracaena, but some authorities classify three species within the genus. The genus is found in the Indo-Pacific region.

Vespicula Genus of fishes

Vespicula is a genus of venomous ray-finned fishes, waspfishes belonging to the subfamily Tetraroginae, which is classified as part of the family Scorpaenidae, the scorpionfishes and their relatives. These fishes are native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. Although FishBase recognises this genus as valid, other authorities, such as the Catalog of Fishes regard it as a synonym of Trichosomus.

Anisochromis is a genus of ray-finned fish, it is the only genus in the monotypic subfamily Anisochrominae, part of the dottyback family Pseudochromidae. They are distinguished from other subfamilies of the Pseudochromidae by having a single spine and four soft rays, three of which are branched and one is simple, in the pelvic fins and the pelvic fins are obviously placed to the front of the base of the pectoral fin. The pectoral fins have 13-15 rays and there is a single lateral line which runs along the base of the dorsal fin, the dorsal fin having one weak spine.

Halimuraenoides is a monotypy genus of ray-finned fishes, classified under the subfamily Congrogadinae, the eel blennies, part of the dottyback family, Pseudochromidae. The single species in the genus, Halimuraenoides isostigma, is known only from the south-western tip of Madagascar.

Haliophis is a genus of ray-finned fishes, the type genus of the subfamily Congrogadinae, the eel blennies, part of the dottyback family, Pseudochromidae. They are found in the Indian Ocean and in the western Pacific Ocean.

Pseudochrominae is a subfamily of ray-finned fishes, one of four subfamilies that make up the family Pseudochromidae, the species within the subfamily are commonly called dottybacks. They are small reef-associated marine fish which have an Indo-Pacific distribution.

The bondfin dottyback is a species of ray-finned fish from the subfamily Pseudochrominae, part of the dottyback family Pseudochromidae. It is found in the eastern Indian Ocean off the north-western coasts of Australia. It is the only species in the monotypic genus Assiculoides.

Labracinus Genus of fishes

Labracinus is a genus of ray-finned fishes from the subfamily Pseudochrominae, which is one of four subfamilies in the dottyback family Pseudochromidae. They are found in the tropical western Pacific Ocean.

Manonichthys Genus of fishes

Manonichthys is a genus of ray-finned fishes from the subfamily Pseudochrominae, which is one of four subfamilies in the dottyback family Pseudochromidae. They are found in the tropical eastern Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. Many of the species of Manonichthys live within the bodies of large sponges, the genus name references the Greek word for a kind of sponge, manon, in combination with the Greek word for "fish", ichthys.

Ogilbyina Genus of fishes

Ogilbyina is a genus of ray-finned fishes from the subfamily Pseudochrominae, which is one of four subfamilies in the dottyback family Pseudochromidae. They are found in the tropical western Pacific Ocean. The genus name honours the zoologist James Douglas Ogilby (1853-1925) of the Queensland Museum.

Pholidochromis is a genus of ray-finned fishes from the subfamily Pseudochrominae, which is one of four subfamilies in the dottyback family Pseudochromidae. They occur in the western and central Pacific Ocean.

Pseudoplesiopinae is a subfamily of the family Pseudochromidae, the dottybacks, it consists of small species of coral-reef inhabiting fish which are distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific.

The bugeye dottyback, also known as Knight's dottyback, is a species of ray-finned fish, the only species in the monospecific genus Amsichthys, belonging to the subfamily Pseudoplesiopinae, of the family Pseudochromidae. It is found in the Indo-Pacific region.

Chlidichthys is a genus of ray-finned fishes from the western and central Indian Ocean, it is part of the subfamily Pseudoplesiopinae which in turn is a constituent subfamily of the dottyback family, the Pseudochromidae. Within the Pseudoplesiopinae, Chlidichthys is regarded as a sister taxon to Pectinochromis.

Lubbockichthys is a genus of ray-finned fish from the Indo-Pacific region which belongs to the subfamily Pseudoplesiopinae, part of the family Pseudochromidae, the dottybacks. The species in this genus have small cycloid scales throughout their lives; some of their head bones have a weakly honeycombed surface; and the parietal bone encloses the rear section of the supratemporal laterosensory canal.

Pectinochromis is a monospecific genus of ray-finned fish from the subfamily Pseudoplesiopinae in the family Pseudochromidae, the dottybacks. The only species in the genus is Pectinochromis lubbocki, a small reef living dottyback from the Red Sea. This genus is the sister taxon to the genus Chlidichthys. The specific name honours the Cambridge University ichthyologist Roger Lubbock (1951–1981), in recognition of his work on the taxonomy of the subfamily Pseudoplesiopinae.
