Ashfield, an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, had three incarnations, the first from 1894 to 1920, the second from 1927 to 1959 and the third from 1968 to 1999. [1] [2] [3]

Bernhard Ringrose Wise, commonly referred to as B. R. Wise, was an Australian politician. He was a social reformer, seen by some as a traitor to his class, but who was not fully accepted by the labour movement. He said, "My failure in Sydney has been so complete—my qualities those which Australia does not recognise, my defects those which Australians dislike most." When he died, William Holman said, "There is hardly anything in our public life which we have to consider to-day that cannot be traced back to his brilliant mind and clear foresight … [Wise] held undisputed supremacy as the foremost debater, foremost thinker and foremost public man in the life of New South Wales".
Petersham was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, named after and including the Sydney suburb of Petersham. It was originally created in 1894, when multi-member districts were abolished, and the four member Canterbury was largely divided between Ashfield, Burwood, Canterbury, Petersham and St George. In 1920, with the introduction of proportional representation, it was absorbed into the five member district of Western Suburbs, along with Ashfield, Dulwich Hill, Leichhardt and Marrickville. It was recreated in 1930, partly replacing Enmore but was abolished in 1941, with parts of the district going to Dulwich Hill and Marrickville.
Members of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly who served in the 36th parliament held their seats from 1950 to 1953. They were elected at the 1950 state election, and at by-elections. The Speaker was Bill Lamb.
Frederick Earle Winchcombe (1855–1917) was an Australian businessman and member of the New South Wales Parliament.
Members of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly who served in the 34th parliament held their seats from 1944 to 1947. They were elected at the 1944 state election, and at by-elections. The opposition Democratic Party merged into the nascent Liberal Party in late 1944, becoming the New South Wales branch of the new party. The Speaker was Daniel Clyne.
Members of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly who served in the 28th parliament of New South Wales held their seats from 1927 to 1930. They were elected at the 1927 state election, and at by-elections. The Speaker was Sir Daniel Levy.
Athol Railton Richardson was an Australian politician and judge. Richardson represented the Electoral district of Ashfield for the United Australia Party and the Liberal Party from 11 May 1935 until 5 February 1952.
Richard William Murden was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for two terms from 1953 until 1959. He was a member of the Liberal Party.
The 1953 New South Wales state election was held on 14 February 1953. It was conducted in single member constituencies with compulsory preferential voting and was held on boundaries created at a 1952 redistribution. The election was for all of the 94 seats in the Legislative Assembly.
William Charles Peters was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council between 1959 and 1978. He was a member of the Labor Party.
This is a list of electoral district results for the 1953 New South Wales state election.
The 1904 New South Wales state election involved 90 electoral districts returning one member each. The election was conducted on the basis of a simple majority or first-past-the-post voting system. There were two significant changes from the 1901 election, the first was that women were given the right to vote, which saw an increase in the number of enrolled voters from 345,500 in 1901, to 689,490 in 1904. The second was that as a result of the 1903 New South Wales referendum, the number of members of the Legislative Assembly was reduced from 125 to 90. The combined effect of the changes meant that the average number of enrolled voters per electorate went from 2,764, to 7,661, an increase of 277%. Leichhardt was the only district that was not substantially changed, while The Macquarie and The Murray districts retained nothing but the name.
The 1901 New South Wales state election was for 125 electoral districts, with each district returning one member.
