The EuroBasket Division B was the second-ranked tier of the bi-annual EuroBasket competition. In this division the teams played off in order to get a promotion into Division A. Conversely, the two worst-performing teams of Division A were relegated into Division B. Also, the winner of the Division C tournament would be invited to promote to Division B.
EuroBasket Division B was played until 2011, when FIBA Europe decided to abolish the divisional system.

EuroBasket, also commonly referred to as the European Basketball Championship, is the main international basketball competition that is contested quadrennially, by the senior men's national teams that are governed by FIBA Europe, which is the European zone within the International Basketball Federation.
The FIBA EuroBasket 2005 Division B was the first EuroBasket Division B tournament, the lower tier of the EuroBasket Tournament. At the same time that Division A had the European Championship, division B had a championship to determine which teams would get promoted into division A for the following year.
Qualification for the 2005 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 2005 took place between 8 September and 25 September 2004. A total of eleven teams qualified for the tournament. Hosts Serbia and Montenegro plus the top four teams from EuroBasket 2003, Lithuania, Spain, Italy and Greece qualified directly. Greece took the place of the French team, which was the fourth-placed team in EuroBasket 2003.
