The new town is served by the Fanling, and Sheung Shui stations of the MTR East Rail line, which connects the new town with Kowloon and the border with mainland China at Lo Wu.

The Fanling Highway is a part of Route 9. Other major roads include the Jockey Club Road and San Wan Road.

Tai Po Road is the second longest road in Hong Kong. It spans from Sham Shui Po in Kowloon to Tai Po in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Initially, the road was named Frontier Road.

The Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse is a slaughterhouse in the outskirts of Sheung Shui, New Territories, Hong Kong. The installation was built by China State Construction. Construction began in February 1997, at a cost of HK$ 1.858 billion. It covers 5.8 hectares and is the largest slaughterhouse in Hong Kong, as well as being one of the largest in Asia according to the Architectural Services Department.

The Hong Kong government started developing new towns in the 1950s to accommodate Hong Kong's booming population. During the first phase of development, the newly developed towns were called "satellite towns", a concept borrowed from the United Kingdom, of which Hong Kong was a colony. Oi Yuen Villa is a privately owned villa located in Kwu Tung, Sheung Shui, Hong Kong. The building has been listed as a Grade I historic building since June 2017.
